Calcium Citrate Vs Calcium Pyruvate
Absorption: Citrate is a little easier to absorb and more calcium dense. Both work if you take enough, take them properly, and make sure you get in at least 2, 000 units of vitamin d3 a day. If you truly have osteoporosis, your doctor may want you to take additional medication as well.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: About 1000 mg a day with vitamin d3. Vit d is needed to help absorb the calcium.
I have benign fasiculation syndrome; however, calcium citrate controls it to the point I feel cured. My calcium level is normal. Why?
Don't know: We do not know what causes this condition. We do know most people get better with time and no other treatment. If the calcium citrate works for you and you have no side effects from it, I would continue it. Sorry I could not provider a better answer. This is a condition we do not understand very well. Best of luck. Dr R
How much magnesium glycinate should I take with 1000mg of calcium citrate a day (for osteoporosis)?
How long does it take for calcium citrate supplements to enter your system after taking them? I don't take them with food.
No time limit: Multivitamins and calcium supplements actually can be taken together. Vitamins in general are relatively easy to absorb under normal condition and calcium does not prevent their absorption and the reverse is also true...So, take them whenever it is convenient for you. Stay well. Keep healthy. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Good luck.
Calcium citrate: No, calcium citrate will not prevent kidney stones. The calcium is too much and the citrate is not enough. Citrate is relevant as a strone preventer, but you should get citrate from lemon, orange, and Urocit K and Bicitra (citric acid and sodium citrate) and Polycitra.See 1 more doctor answer
Either ok: Either form of calcium is reasonable to take as a supplement. Choose a form that you won't mind taking as some are definitely more palatable than others. Calcium citrate may be somewhat better absorbed as calcium is best absorbed with some acid. In general, what is more important is to space out your calcium consumption throughout the day as possible since if you take all your calcium at one time it is not well absorbed.
Relatively safe: The citrate in calcium citrate is helpful to prevent stone disease. Calcium however could increase calcium excretion in urine. It has the potential of binding oxalate in the gut which is a beneficial effect. If using calcium citrate, need your doc to evaluate your 24 hour calcium excretion in urine to ascertain that the total calcium excretion in urine is not elevated.
