I have benign fasiculation syndrome; however, calcium citrate controls it to the point I feel cured. My calcium level is normal. Why?
Don't know: We do not know what causes this condition. We do know most people get better with time and no other treatment. If the calcium citrate works for you and you have no side effects from it, I would continue it. Sorry I could not provider a better answer. This is a condition we do not understand very well. Best of luck. Dr R ...Read more
No time limit:
Multivitamins and calcium supplements actually can be taken together. Vitamins in general are relatively easy to absorb under normal condition and calcium does not prevent their absorption and the reverse is also true...So, take them whenever it is convenient for you.
Stay well. Keep healthy. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Good luck. ...Read more
How much magnesium glycinate should I take with 1000mg of calcium citrate a day (for osteoporosis)?
How long does it take for calcium citrate supplements to enter your system after taking them? I don't take them with food.
Either ok: Either form of calcium is reasonable to take as a supplement. Choose a form that you won't mind taking as some are definitely more palatable than others. Calcium citrate may be somewhat better absorbed as calcium is best absorbed with some acid. In general, what is more important is to space out your calcium consumption throughout the day as possible since if you take all your calcium at one time it is not well absorbed. ...Read more

Relatively safe: The citrate in calcium citrate is helpful to prevent stone disease. Calcium however could increase calcium excretion in urine. It has the potential of binding oxalate in the gut which is a beneficial effect. If using calcium citrate, need your doc to evaluate your 24 hour calcium excretion in urine to ascertain that the total calcium excretion in urine is not elevated. ...Read more

I need a calcium citrate chewable that does not contain artificial sweeteners. I have had gastric bypass?
Art sweetner prob ok: I don't believe there is a big problem using artificial sweetners after gastric bypass. Simple sugars such as contained in regular soda pop are a problem and can cause the dumping syndrome after by-pass. Perhaps artificial sweetners don't agree with you. Your pharmacist or online search could likely turn up a calcium supplement without artificial sweetner. ...Read more

I have osteopenia taking calcium citrate vit d I have read that calcium supplements can cause hardening of arteries is it true?
Just not so: The claim that calcium supplements promote atherosclerosis was just made up. Atherosclerosis lesions may calcify; that is where any connection ends. You deserve better than to be troubled with internet scare stuff. If you are actually osteopenic at your age, the situation is very serious and I would urge you to continue educating yourself with reliable information. Your doctor is your guide. ...Read more

Which is better for bone health: calcium carbonate or calcium citrate? Specifically, which one has a higher chance of causing kidney stones?
Calcium: Both of these will supply calcium to your body and kidneys. Calcium citrate is better absorbed than Calcium Carbonate. Calcium citrate supplies citrate, which is helpful, but the amount is very small. Carbonate is not well absorbed so will not affect urine pH. The total mg of calcium matters as well as how much fluid you drink per day and other diet content. Avoid salt, meats, and drink 4 L/day ...Read more
