Is Calamine Lotion good for eczema? If so, should I apply other moisturisers before/after/not-at-all?
What's the best treatment for a two and a half year old with eczema. Is calamine lotion safe. It is on his arms and legs?
See a dermatologist: Calamine lotion will aggravate eczema. It drys the skin. A dermatologist will help you. Meanwhile have the child soak for a long time in a warm bath. Then smear with something for dry skin. Ceramide creams from Eucerin, Aveeno, (oatmeal) CeraVe, others are all nice. Also rub in OTC hydrocortisone cream on arms and legs. When you go to the skin specialist bring everything you have used, including cleansers. ...Read more

I have a bottle of calamine lotion that is about a year over its expiration date. Can I still use it?
I suppose: The expiration date is there as an indicator of potency. Use after that date implies that the ingredients have broken down and will be less effective. The breakdown products are unlikely to produce a significant injury. I never liked this lotion anyway. I consider it too drying and of little benefit beyond giving you something to do. ...Read more
I have anal itching. Today I bought walgreens calahist medicated calamine lotion, but it says external use only. Can I use it on my anus?

Can I use 1% silver sulfadiazine cream of poison izy rash? If so, do I continue to use calamine lotion?
USELESS: Silver sulfadiazine will not relieve you in any way. Calamine lotion is barely effective. "Poison" ivy is a violent reaction which will occur only on those allergic to it and only where the sap came on the skin. A prescription strength cortisone is very effective. Clobetasol gel or augmented betamethasone cream, . OK to wash. No special soap makes any difference. Not contagious. Will not spread. ...Read more

Not unless allergic: Other than relieving an itch, calamine lotion should not have any effect on the skin. It would be very unusual to be allergic to calamine lotion but it is theoretically possible, so if your skin seems more irritated, red, itchy or uncomfortable after using calamine lotion, stop using it and avoid it in the future. More likely would be effects from whatever rash you were using the calamine to treat. ...Read more
