Not very helpful: Topical steroids are not very effective for hives due to the mechanism involved. Hives move around, so you will just end up chasing them with the cream. What helps the extreme fibro itch? I've tried prescription hydrocortisone 2.5%, eczema lotion, & aveeno oatmeal bath. Help!!!
"fibro- itch"": Sorry- I am not certain what you are referring to. Please clarify your question. Fibromyalgia- is not a itching illness. Calamine tends to: Dry out skin. Keep sunburn cool w moist cool/cold compresses. Avoid alcohol containing products. Break off pieces of aloe vera plant & apply sap to skin. Consider non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds to reduce pain. Don’t yank off peeling skin or burst blisters. Not the best option: Low potency topical steroids like Locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate) lipocream can help with the inflammation around the lips when they are chapped. They should be used for a short period of time ( a couple days) then transition to a non-steroid option like vaseline petrolatum ointment or aquphor for long term control.
