I have a bottle of calamine lotion that is about a year over its expiration date. Can I still use it?
I suppose: The expiration date is there as an indicator of potency. Use after that date implies that the ingredients have broken down and will be less effective. The breakdown products are unlikely to produce a significant injury. I never liked this lotion anyway. I consider it too drying and of little benefit beyond giving you something to do. ...Read more
Calamine tends to: Dry out skin. Keep sunburn cool w moist cool/cold compresses. Avoid alcohol containing products. Break off pieces of aloe vera plant & apply sap to skin. Consider non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds to reduce pain. Don’t yank off peeling skin or burst blisters. Seek medical care for severe pain, fever, lack of improvement of symptoms within several days or if a large surface area is blistered. ...Read more
I have anal itching. Today I bought walgreens calahist medicated calamine lotion, but it says external use only. Can I use it on my anus?
Try Benadryl (diphenhydramine) lotion: You can try topical Benadryl (diphenhydramine) lotion/cream, or a mild cortisone cream (0.5% if covering large area, 1% ok if localized / small areas). Try one at a time & see how they work for you. If neither, will need zyrtec + Pepcid (generics ok) +/- prescribed steroid pills. See urgent care if no relief. ...Read more

Went to park. Burrs thrown at me. Mildly itchy rash on back and shoulders, use allegra (fexofenadine) and calamine lotion, not helping. Respond asap?
Best to ignore: The more you mess with it the more it will mess with you. Ignore it. It should get better no matter what you do. If you have to do something put otc cortisone cream on it. ...Read more
Can I use 1% silver sulfadiazine cream of poison izy rash? If so, do I continue to use calamine lotion?
USELESS: Silver sulfadiazine will not relieve you in any way. Calamine lotion is barely effective. "Poison" ivy is a violent reaction which will occur only on those allergic to it and only where the sap came on the skin. A prescription strength cortisone is very effective. Clobetasol gel or augmented betamethasone cream, . OK to wash. No special soap makes any difference. Not contagious. Will not spread. ...Read more
Face got really itchy and swollen from a cleanser I used so I took so Benadryl (diphenhydramine) but my face is still dry, should I use calamine lotion or hydrocortisone?
I use sunscreen& either burn or breakout. Use fluticasone propionate cream, calamin lotion, lotrisone (clotrimazole and betamethasone) cream on sunburn? If not wants good to use?
Apply cool...: ...Washcloths often, and take Ibuprofen to decrease the pain and inflammation. If you burn after applying a sunscreen, you are not using one that is strong enough, or applying it often enough. Breakouts are usually from the vehicle. So choose a spray or thin lotion with a high spf (55 or higher) and apply it often while you are in the sun. ...Read more
