Should ca 199, ca 15.3 and others done yearly to detect any cancerous changes early on ?

Should ca 199, ca 15.3 and others done yearly to detect any cancerous changes early on ?

In a nutshell:: No. These are not screening tests for the normal population. Only in select patients with humongously increased risk like certain mutation carriers or people with very strong family history these markers may be considered and even then there are no data to my knowledge that shows it decreases chances of dying of cancer. Talk to your doc about age and risk appropriate screening tests for you. ...Read more

Hi, please can you inform me why my ca 15 -3 is very high while from 5 month till now i took many medicens and chemotherapy?

Tumor marker: Ca 15-3 is a blood test useful in tracking results of treatment of advanced breast cancer in up to 50-90% of cases. As the cancer responds to treatment, the ca 15-3 goes down. A rise in the level after it had been normal may reflect a loss of response or the cancer relapsing. If the ca 15-3 never declined with treatment, the cancer may have been resistant at the beginning to that particular tx. ...Read more
