Hi, I'm 48 yo, have endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, pre-menopausal. CA 125 was around 200's then 159 the last one was 210 any concerns?
Likely, no: CA 125 is not recommended as a screening tool for ovarian cancer when used in risk-based stratification. Meaning, assuming that your mom or sister didn't get diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Normal for women with endometriosis to have elevated CA-125. Ca125 is also known as Cancer antigen 125. Ca-125 (cancer antigen 125 or carbohydrate antigen 125) is a biomarker/tumor marker for ovarian cancer (etc); however, it is not sensitive or specific enough to use as a screening test. Yes and No: Ca-125 is a test for follow-up after diagnosis and with the treatment of ovarian cancer. It is elevated in many other diseases.The test should not be used for a fishing expedition because it would be misleading and concerning for a patient like you. Can a hemorhaggic, endometrioma or fibroid cause high level on the ca-125 test? I am 27 y/o with a level of 190. I have a 10cm and 4cm cyst on ovaries
2 ovarian cyst, one 8 CM and the other 6cm. Had vus done, low level echos. Going back in 2 months for review. Ca-125 in normal limits. Concered?
Low degree of concer: Most common cause of such benign cysts are functional cysts that are very common in reproductive age females. Unless, presenting with symptoms (pain, nausea, vomiting, fever etc), your physician may opt to follow them with a repeat us in 3-6 months. Waiting is hard: Although it's hard to wait, your doctor is evaluating you for possible abdominal or pelvic cancers which can show up even after removal of the uterus, tubes, and ovaries.
