Ca 125 Blood Test Ovarian Cyst
Hi, I'm 48 yo, have endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, pre-menopausal. CA 125 was around 200's then 159 the last one was 210 any concerns?
Likely, no: CA 125 is not recommended as a screening tool for ovarian cancer when used in risk-based stratification. Meaning, assuming that your mom or sister didn't get diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Normal for women with endometriosis to have elevated CA-125. It sounds like your doctor has done Ultrasound to evaluate ovaries as well. Your MD knows your history and risk, likely this CA-125 level is normal ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

When your gyn checks you for an ovarian cyst and then asks you to take a blood test for ca-125. Is that a bad sign?
CA 125 - Why check?: Cancer antigen 125 (ca-125) is not a screening test for ovarian cancer. It is an adjunctive test for measuring tumor response (ie, a tumor marker) for pts w/ known ovarian cancer. It isn't perfect even when we know someone has ovarian cancer. In the appropriate clinical setting -- eg an abnormal ovary on imaging it might help determine if a mass is benign or malignant, but again is not perfect. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

After an ovarian pregnancy ruptures is a blood test the only thing that can differentiate it from an ovarian cyst?
Not necessarily: Blood test for HCG would help in establishing pregnancy and if there is no gestational sac in the uterus, it would suggest an ectopic pregnancy. Also, a uk study showed that treating based on ca125 level did not improve outcomes. "125" comes from the 125th attempt to develop a marker. It was introduced by bast ...Read more
