Ca 125 Blood Test How Long For Results
My ca 125 blood test result slightly elevated, with a different reading 3 times, what could cause this to happen?
Many causes: The ca-125 blood test is very sensitive-- in many cases it is too sensitive. In certain cases, it can be a marker of certain types of cancer. But in other patients, a modestly elevated ca-125 is not alarming. Visit with your doctor to better understand the details of your case. ...Read more
Ca-125 (cancer antigen 125 or carbohydrate antigen 125) is a biomarker/tumor marker for ovarian cancer (etc); however, it is not sensitive or specific enough to use as a screening test. Also, a uk study showed that treating based on ca125 level did not improve outcomes. "125" comes from the 125th attempt to develop a marker. It was introduced by bast ...Read more
Not long ago found out that many times blood test called 'ca125" can tell if you have cancer. Is it true?
No: Ca 125 is a tumor marker which is frequently associated with ovarian cancer. The " Ca" refers to carbohydrate antigen which has little to do with cancer except when it is known that ovarian cancer is present. At that time the test can be used, for "monitoring" the response to treatment, but not for making the diagnosis. One of the frequent causes of an elevated Ca125 is alcoholic cirrhosis. ...Read more
I just received my blood test results which showed a ca-125 reading of 35. The blood test results showed hyper chromic microcytic anaemia.
Benign: A Ca 125 of 35 was found to be a useful cutoff point, with 99% of healthy women having values less than 35. Levels above 35 units are certainly seen in healthy women, but beyond the cutoff point of 35, the higher the value, the more likely there is trouble. With ovarian cancer, the levels measure in hundreds. Depends on what you are looking for. Repeat the test. You probably need some iron tabs. ...Read more
Save your $$: This blood test is useful only in certain situations and is not accurate if you are trying to make a new cancer diagnosis. It can be high even if you don't have cancer, and it can be normal in some situations when you do have cancer. My advice is to save your money, and visit your doctor if you have a specific concern. ...Read more
I went to take a ca-125 blood test and the doctors office said it was normal that I had a 8.6, is that actually normal?
CA 125 - Why check?: 8.6 sounds like a normal value for the cancer antigen 125 (ca125) laboratory test. However, why did you want to get it? It is not a screening test for ovarian cancer. It is an adjunctive test for measuring tumor response (ie, a tumor marker) for patients with known ovarian cancer. It isn't perfect even when we know someone has ovarian cancer. ...Read more
Not beneficial: The ca125 test is not used for screening for ovarian cancer because it does not work in the general female population. The ca125 can be abnormal in situations without any cancer and most importantly using this test does not save any lives like in the case of maamograms for breast cancer. ...Read more
Not always.: If this test is high, it could mean endometrial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer and gastrointestinal cancer. This can also indicate benign conditions, like endometriosis, other ovary disorders, and pregnancy, as well as any inflammatory condition in the abdiminal area. This is a big reason why it is used with other tests in evaluation and to follow treatment response. ...Read more
I've been told my ca125 blood test is high what could it be as I have bad hot sweats my cyst has disappeared not the menopause had the blood repeated?
No: It is not. It is often used as such but: a hint of oca requires careful investigation, often surgery. Ca-125 gives many "false positives" so some surgeries would have been unnecessary. This would be ok with those who had oca, but perhaps not with those who did not. Ca-125 also gives "false negatives". This is worse, as the reassurance was misleading! Pelvic sonography is a better tool. ...Read more

Can you diagnose whether someone has PID based on blood test, such as ESR, CRP, and CA125? Do they always rise without exception when someone has PID?
Need more info:
There are no blood tests specific for PID. The diagnosis is base on lab test results, pelvic examination and may be imaging studies. It would be prudent to consult a gynecologist.

13cm ovarian cyst, why blood test for CA19-9 and fetoprotien and not CA125? As well as an MRI requested?
Discuss with doctor: CA19-9, AFP and CA-125 are all different tumor markers. The management of ovarian cysts must be individualized. Your doctor who has all of your information is in a better position to answer the specific tests indicated. A cyst that large may simply need to be removed. Schedule a follow up visit to discuss the treatment plan and if other testing is needed ...Read more
When your gyn checks you for an ovarian cyst and then asks you to take a blood test for ca-125. Is that a bad sign?
CA 125 - Why check?: Cancer antigen 125 (ca-125) is not a screening test for ovarian cancer. It is an adjunctive test for measuring tumor response (ie, a tumor marker) for pts w/ known ovarian cancer. It isn't perfect even when we know someone has ovarian cancer. In the appropriate clinical setting -- eg an abnormal ovary on imaging it might help determine if a mass is benign or malignant, but again is not perfect. ...Read more
I have a 2.8cm ovarian cyst. I have the brca1 mutated gene. My ca125 blood test came back normal. Could it still be early stage of ovarian cancer?
Rare: Ovarian cysts are of concern when over 5 cm. If the small cyst is not complex it is usually followed by ultrasound. Ca 125 has no diagnostic implication but is only of value for monitoring. Brca1 suggests the cyts should be followed. ...Read more
