Take much longer: Dr. Fowler has provided great steps for managing a sprained ankle. If you don't rest it though, the swelling, pain, and bruising will persist and healing will take longer. Depending on extent of injury, it can also be hard to tell a sprain from a fracture without xray. Pain may force you to stay off your foot for awhile. Unless you want a less stable ankle over time, resting it is essential. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Two disc herniations 1 pinching C8 ddd canal stenosis and severe carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. Which is causing severe hand numbness 3yrs ?
Likely carpal tunnel: Both have overlap within the hands depending upon the distribution. MRI is necessary of cervical spine and in many cases if distribution is not distinct, further an EMG/Nerve conduction study to delineate. In most cases however, it is more likely the carpal tunnel is the culprit. Consultation/examination by a neurosurgeon would be most appropriate for diagnosis. ...Read more

So i went and had a injury consulted a brain and spine doc and had told me that i possibly have a ruptured c1 or C2 what kind of pain cause ?
C1 and c2 fractures in my neck. they broke/were fractured about 6 weeks ago. i'm in a neck brace. what's the normal healing time? no spinal injury
Varies : It varies somewhat based upon a more specific description of the fractures. That being said, 12 weeks of immobilization for healing would be pretty standard. Certainly would want to make sure it is followed closely as some C2 fractures can displace and require either a halo or surgery. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Don't do it!: You should not remove a halo without the advice of your treating physician. This device is important to provide stability to healing vertebrae. Fractures that high up on your spine can be quite devastating as damage to your spinal cord at this level affects basic functions such as breathing. Please follow your doctor's advice on this! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Help please? What is the procedure of neurosugery of atlantoaxcial dislocation ( c1 - C2 mobilty )?
Varies: It varies somewhat based upon the exact nature of what you are discribing. If you actually had an injury that actually led to a dislocation between C1 and C2, it is unlikely you would have survived, as a complete injury to the spinal cord at that level takes out the ability of a person to breath on his own. C1-C2 instability is much more common, and a fusion is the surgery of choice. ...Read more

My daughter was diagnosed with Stenosis of the Foramen Magnum and a syrinx extending from C1-Tll at age 6. What is expected long term?
Surgery @ some point: The syrinx may not be very symptomatic now but this with the narrowing of the bony entrance to the spinal cord will likely cause chronic headaches and other symptoms by the teen years. At some point they will want to go in and remove the bag like syrinx and create more room in the bony entrance to the cord. It is a major surgery but in gifted hands can solve the problem. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
