I've been havin sex a lot on my fertile and ovulation days im treating BV rite now didn't know I had it is this why I'm not pregnant yet?

Give it more time: The first day you start bleeding is day #1 of your cycle. Most women ovulate around days 14-16 (you may use an otc ovulation predictor kit to determine the day). During cycle days 10-20, have sex everyday or every other day to maximize your chances. 50% of couple are pregnant within 6 months and 85% within 12 months. Properly treated bacterial vaginitis should not keep you from getting pregnant. ...Read more

Is BV discharge continuous (all the time) or more intermittent (there one day and not the next).?

Usually continuous: Usually all the time, but it could be intermittent. The main symptom of BV is strong vaginal odor, often fishy, often more prominent after sex. Any new, changed, or abnormal dishcarge should be professionally evaluated, so see your doctor soon. Good luck! ...Read more

Can you let me know how many time should I use white vinegar douche to treat bv?

Not recommended: Generally douching doesn't work very well to cure a bacterial vaginosis infection. And studies show that women who douche double their chance of getting bacterial vaginosis infections. Likely this is because douching can disturb the normal bacteria that live in the vagina. The presence of your normal bacteria helps prevent vaginal infections. ...Read more

Can cervicitis be mistaken for bv? Can both be present at same time? Does cervicitis discharge have an odor?

Manage separately: These are often present at the same time. Bacterial vaginosis often has the distinctive odor, but chronic cervicitis, which is less well understood, doesn't -- it's an anatomic finding. ...Read more

Can using Ph balance products for awhile then not using around the time you change sexual partners cause BV?

Can using Ph balance products for awhile then not using around the time you change sexual partners cause BV?

Female hygiene: No, probably not. Your body is made to balance its own pH in a natural way. You don't need to use any store-bought products at all. Gentle soap and water is all you need, and some women find that even soap is too irritating. BV is strictly overgrowth of normal vaginal bacteria. Women can get it even if not sexually active. It's easy to treat, so see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment. ...Read more

Does wearing panty liners every day rly cause BV? I wear (non-perfumed) ones but for only about 8 hours and I change every time I use the restroom.

Makes no difference: There have always been urban myths and old wives' tales about tight clothing and vaginal infections in women. Mostly these concerned yeast, but if there is any connection at all, it is very minor. There certainly is no evidence that panty liners, underwear, or other clothing increase the risk of bacterial vaginosis -- not even a theoretical reason why they might. Don't worry about it. ...Read more

I am having thick white discharge with sour odor. I've had BV several times. Could I be having bv again?

Probably: It does sound like BV. There are antibiotics that can treat it that your doctor can help with. People with recurrent BV may benefit from using vaginal probiotics, increasing the amount of acid in the diet (such as fruits and vegetables). Limiting dietary sugar may also help. Prolonged use of antibiotics can work as well in some cases. ...Read more

Every time I use lube, my BV flares up. I don't want to always have to rely on antibiotics. Is there anything else I can do?

Use pro biotics: I recommend Rephresh Pro B. one a day for 2 weeks, then one twice a week for maintenance.

Also, depending on the lube, that should not cause B V, and constantly taking antibiotics is unhealthy.

If you need a lubricant, try olive oil or coconut oil. ...Read more

What r reasons y women have recurrent bv? This is the 3rd time in 3mths I've had bv. Prescribed metrogel and it keeps coming back no sex in 2mths

I was on antibiots for BV I wasn't taking then at the same time I kept forgetting finished the antibiotic but today I noticed a really fishy smell?

Untreated BV: If you are still having a fishy smell it is a sign that the BV has not been adequately treated. Call your doctor and tell them what happened and they may call in another round of antibiotics. If not you may need to be seen again in the office. ...Read more

One pap smear said it was BV then another months later said it was trich. Could he of just been wrong the first time?

Paps & infection Dx.: Pap smears are very helpful in providing a preliminary identification of a potential vaginal infection. However, it is often necessary to do further testing like a wet prep (smear) to view the offending organism under the microscope to provide a conclusive diagnosis. In your case, you could also have acquired the trichomonas infection separately after the first was properly treated. See a GYN MD ...Read more

I have to take flagy for BV twice a day but I take them both together will it not work because I remember I took 4 at a time prescibed by my doctor?

Different conditions: Flagyl given four at a time is for treatment of trichomonas infection of the vagina. Bacterial vaginosis treatment requires a more prolonged treatment regimen of 7-10 days given two times per day. This works better if taken 12 hours apart rather than together based on the way Flagyl is metabolized in the body. ...Read more

Had bv for about six years now. I'm 20 years old. Every time I've been to the doctors I've been giving antibiotics which never work. What shall I Do?

Recurrent BV...: ...is common, difficult, often very frustrating for both patient & doc. BV is not necessarily an STD, but avoiding sex or always using condoms may help. Preventive treatment with vaginal metronidazole (MetroGel®) or boric acid vaginal capsules may help. If your doc is unfamiliar with these, ask for referral to a gyn who specializes in infectious diseases; or an NHS GUM clinic for expert care. ...Read more

In 3 years I've been treated 4 times for bacterial vaginosis. Why does it recur? Is it possible there's a bigger problem?

Recurrent Vaginosis: Bacterial vaginosis is a very nonspecific diagnosis. When there is no yeast in the vagina and there is a purulent vaginal discharge a diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis can be made. There could be other reasons such as endometritis causing this purulence or a cervicitis. Ask your gyno for help. Get a second opinion. See your doctor instead of your np. ...Read more
