Infection (Definition)

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

Thank you. Ive had BV &a yeast infection twice that i know of at the same time. Could that cause the cluster of bumps as well?

Thank you. Ive had BV &a yeast infection twice that i know of at the same time. Could that cause the cluster of bumps as well?

Warts or herpes?: Neither yeast nor BV would cause a "cluster of bumps". If they are more or less permanent -- i.e. unchanged after more than a few days -- it could be genital warts. If brief and initially blister-like and then sores, herpes is more likely. See a doctor and get it checked out. Good luck! ...Read more

Can I use a yeast infection vaginal insert with a BV vaginal insert together at the same time?

Can I use a yeast infection vaginal insert with a BV vaginal insert together at the same time?

No: Most doctors recommend using one at a time, the Metronidazole first. Someone else on healthtap may have a different recommendation, but i typically tell my patients to use one at a time. Otherwise too much product in the vagina. You can always take oral Metronidazole and use vaginal anti-fungal or vice-versa. Just an idea for your and doc to discuss. ...Read more

I've been having foul smelling discharge for years, I've been seen multiple times and and I've been tested for std, sti, bv and yeast infection, ?

Tested not treated?: You were tested for a number of things, but were you ever treated for bacterial vaginitis? It would be worth an empiric trail of treatment if no retained vaginal object such as a tampon is found. ...Read more

Why did i get a yeast infection and then BV all the time?

Why did i get a yeast infection and then BV all the time?

PH imbalances: Yeast or BV infections occur when the vaginal ph changes from it's normal slightly acidic range of 4-4.5. Antibiotics, stress, dietary changes, certain medications can disrupt this balance. This can allow the normal populations of yeast or gardnerella bacteria to overproliferate and cause yeast or bv. Some women have luck using nutritional supplements with acidophilus, probiotics, garlic. ...Read more

I have the meriana iud.And have had BV 2 times since.Recently i had a yeast infection now I have creamy pink discharge and a light fishy smell.

Hormonal changes: Many people take birth control pills for cycle control and hormonal balance in addition to contraception. When an iud is placed, people stop taking the pills and return to the environment of hormone imbalance and irregular bleeding. This can remove the protection against BV that the pills offered. This is especially true in heavier women. ...Read more

I was recently treated for a yeast infection and bv..And ialways under impression BV was std..Is it common to have yeast and BV at same time?

It happens: Borh infections can occur concomittantly(at the same time), but is not as common as each infection occuring separately. Bacterial vaginitis is not an std, however recurrences may be misdiagnosed and chllamydial cultures should be done in that instance. Chlamydia is a std. ...Read more

Should i take out IUD due to chronic BV and yeast infection?

Should i take out IUD due to chronic BV and yeast infection?

Hard to answer: The iud is a foreign body that is placed in the uterus for birth control. A string for later removal protrudes through the cervix. I have seen recurrent BV infections in iud users. Bv can usually be cured with intravaginal antibiotics and maximizing vaginal ph to 4. A product called rephresh can reset vaginal ph to 4 as can yogurt (placed in the vagina). Do this weekly and see if BV stays away. ...Read more

I'm 16 days late and I just found out Friday I got a bv and yeast infection and I took 4 pregnancy test all negative what's wrong with me?

Treat the vaginitis : Vaginitis caused by bacterias or by yeast/fungus can be quite troublesome but fortunately can be treated. If after these "4 neg. tests" you are concerned about an unplanned pregnancy and need guidance about safe sex practices, consider discussing your reproductive life plans with a knowledgeable Gyn who could offer you an intrauterine device or a subdermal implant . Be safe. Use condoms too. ...Read more

I have had bv and yeast infection haven't started any treatment yet. Can this cause stillborn or early labor? 26weeks pregnant

I have had bv and yeast infection haven't started any treatment yet. Can this cause stillborn or early labor? 26weeks pregnant

Take the treatment: Knowing you are pregnant, your doctor would not have prescribed treatment unless s/he believed it would be safe for the pregnancy and your baby. In fact, the opposite is true: BV itself risks premature labor and other complications. Take the treatment as prescribed, or all your doctor if you still have questions about it. ...Read more

Why do I keep getting reacurring BV and yeast infection before and after I have my period? What will get rid of it. I have taken the meds and insert.

See below: Bv is a synergistic infection involving gardnerella and a number of other bacteria. It is treated with Metronidazole oral or intravaginal treatment. Tinidazole and Clindamycin are alternatives. Oral and intravaginal probiotics containing lactobacilli can help. Recurrent disease is related to colonization of your sex partner, inconsistant condom use and is halved with estrogen contraceptives. ...Read more

I visited ER for watery clear discharge irritation milk colored custers i was told this is BV and yeast infection but i still have the water discharge?

Vaginal discharge: There are numerous reasons for vaginal discharge. An er is by no means the best place to deal with this. You should visit and establish a firm relationship with an ob/gyn doctor. You will probably need one in the future and developing trust and a background with them now will be very helpful. ...Read more
