I'm taking butterbur for migraines does this supplement have any side effects I should know about?
NOT REALLY: I have extensively used purified butterbur in form of petadolex, and have never had much comment about any side effect except one patient said it left a flavour of grass in his mouth, and one lady said when she belched it smelled like hay. Try all then...: All are proven effective but some individuals respond better to some than others so you need to try all to see what works best for you. Since each reduce migraines but seldom stop them entirely best benefit most likely from taking all. If you go months with no migraine can try stopping one at a time to see what's working. Probably Not Safe: Some butterbur preparations contain chemicals called pyrrolizidine alkaloids (pas), which can damage the liver and cause other serious harm. Only butterbur products that are certified and labeled “pa-free” should be used. Since even the "pa-free" version of butterbur breaks down in the liver avoid taking with Fioricet (acetaminophen butalbital and caffeine) (since this has Acetaminophen in it) and can lead to further liver damage. ...Read more
