This is usual 4 this: Problem. The bursa ruptures & the blood contained in it spreads, hence the B&B. It follows the laws of gravity so as U R up & about it will gravitate down toward Ur hand. This also will swell some, both from the ruptured bursa & also due 2 U perhaps even protecting it. It will gradually clear. U may feel "lumps" in the area later due 2 scaring of the lining, & it hurts when U lean on elbow. Normal

My right elbow bursa sac feels like it not there, it's sensitive when my elbow is placed on a surface, there was no specific injury that brought it on?

I think U mean @ --: - times U feel some pain when U lean on it. This is due 2 a tiny fold in the synovial lining of the bursa is pinched. U may even feel a little pop as this occurs. Happens 2 all @ 1 time or another. No need 2 worry unless it becomes swollen and painful. Then it's time for a visit 2 Ur ortho guy.

My son play high level hockey. His bursa sac was inflamed and he has been icing it. He just played a game and said the fluid is gone and his elbow hur?

Bursitis elbow: I assume you are talking about the bursa over the elbow which originally had fluid in it. After the hockey game it sounds like the bursa sac ruptured. This would give pain and inflammation. If the elbow moves well and the patient can do a push-up easily, the bursa simply released the fluid after trauma and the symptoms should go away quickly. X-ray if the pain will not allow a push-up

What are treatment options for the burst bursa sac in my elbow?

Need more info: First you should see an orthopedic surgeon for immediate care especially if your diagnosis is correct. Not following up with care can mean pain and maybe disability in the future/

My Bursa Sac on the elbow burst today through some thin skin with blood should I worry enough to go to the ER with no insurance?

My Bursa Sac on the elbow burst today through some thin skin with blood should I worry enough to go to the ER with no insurance?

Yes: Yes, I know it may be worrisome to go to the Er when you don't have insurance, but you definitely need to be seen and treated appropriately for it. The problem is that if it is not treated correctly it runs a fairly high risk of infection setting in and that can become a much bigger (and more costly) problem. An urgent care place would be another option.

Hi. I hit my left elbow rather hard about 2 months ago against a wall. A bursa sac formed. It is not tender, sore or red. When I press hard on my elbow, I can feel some light pain on the bone. Do I need to go for x-rays?

YES: You probably have traumatic bursitis with possible fluid accumulation (effusion). I suggest an orthopedic evaluation or exam at local UC clinic. If fluid is present, it may have to be drained.

What happens when an injury to the elbow causes the bursae sac to leak? Does this cause long-term damage? Can it heal itself?

What happens when an injury to the elbow causes the bursae sac to leak? Does this cause long-term damage? Can it heal itself?

This: This can usually heal itself. It is important to be sure there is no other elbow injury such as a fracture. A risk is infection, and if the area became red, swollen, or the patient has a fever then they should be seen immediately.

4.8cm hard palpable lump next to elbow. U/s said inflammatory process but no bursa. Keflex and steroids no effect.... What should I do?

When to wait: These often are quite irritating but usually resolve slowly over time without treatment. If they persist then there is a surgical option.

Are there any risks[ie tendon rupture] for having steriod injection for conditions like tennis elbow? Thanks

Are there any risks[ie tendon rupture] for having steriod injection for conditions like tennis elbow? Thanks

Some: The common extensor tendon of the elbow rarely ruptures; however, too many cortisone injections (> 2) can weaken the tendon and make it more prone to microtears. Consider platelet-rich plasma or similar instead.

I'm pretty sure my cyst in my elbow ruptured because the cyst is gone and my elbow now has a shot glass worth of liquid in it. Leave it or drain it? Thx

I'm pretty sure my cyst in my elbow ruptured because the cyst is gone and my elbow now has a shot glass worth of liquid in it. Leave it or drain it? Thx

Depends: Some providers will drain it while others will teach you how to wrap it in the hopes that it will reabsorb on its own, especially in order to reduce the risk of introducing infection. Your physician can evaluate you further to help you determine the best course.

Can you rupture a blood vessel in your elbow by pressing a pressure point in your hand I just need to know?

Can you rupture a blood vessel in your elbow by pressing a pressure point in your hand I just need to know?

NO: Your body has built-in safety features. One is collateral blood flow--it allows blood to continue to flow into and around a blocked area in order to prevent the accumulation of platelets which can lead to clotting.

With ovarian cyst daughter elbowed me in lower abdomen. Now having pain. Could that have caused the cyst to rupture? Need to go to ER if no bleeding?

With ovarian cyst daughter elbowed me in lower abdomen. Now having pain. Could that have caused the cyst to rupture? Need to go to ER if no bleeding?

Possible: Blunt trauma can cause internal injury depending on how much force is involved, if your pain is severe and limits your ability to function, see a doctor immediately, internal bleeding is difficult to gauge, so if you have other signs like light-headedness or dizziness, go to the ER now!

How is a ruptured bursa sac different from traditional bursitis?

Inflammation: Bursitis refers to inflammation of the bursa around a joint. The bursa is still intact. A ruptured bursa on the other hand is open and the fluid may leak out. This sometimes happens and may require surgical treatment.

I popped or maybe ruptured my bursa sac by getting hit by a pitch last night. I just need to know details of what that means?

Which one?: A bursa is a fluid filled sac that is for reducing pressure and wear on a joint. Did not say which one you struck. If it was already fluid filled then it may have been irritated. There is nothing to do now except wait and see the final result of what has happened. If it remains swollen then put ice on it for now and wait. See the ortho if followup if it remains swollen Best wishes.
