The : The symptoms you describe are typical of a heart attack or inflammation around the heart (pericarditis) - they can also be caused by anxiety and hyperventilation. So yes, it could be serious. Key items for revealing if there is a heart problem would be an electrocardiogram (ekg) and blood tests, perhaps an echocardiogram (looking at the heart and pericardium with sound waves). If : If you have not seen a doctor yet, then it is a good idea to seek care very soon. If your pain is increasing in intensity, you are experiencing shortness of breath, or heart palpitations, a visit to the urgent care or emergency room is in order. Your symptoms could very well be manifestations of your ptsd, especially if you are experiencing an increase in triggers.On the other hand a cardiac cause, as well as other medical issues need to be ruled out. Esophagitis : You did mention in your history that you have acid reflux. There is a muscular valve in between the bottom of your esophagus and your stomach. If the valve is mechanically weak then stomach acid will leak into the esophagus when lying down because the effect of gravity is partially cancelled when flat (vs vertical:standing upright). Perhaps this first started in the last weeks of pregnancy, but, I agree, with weight loss it should have improved. Try a proton pump inhibitor (Nexium (esomeprazole) type drug) or H2 blocker (Zantac type drug) for at least two weeks.
