No short answer: A number of possibillities, if he does much lifting he may be straining the muscles. He may have a prostate infection (that's often back pain though). He could have diverticulosis (pockets in the intestine) and they may get obstructed and/or infected at times (more often left side). Incomplete digestion: Interesting observation. Would suggest making sure you get the same amount of sleep every night, meaning that if you have to wake up early you compensate by going to sleep earlier. Also keeping a food log may help in deciding if your symptoms have to do with sleep time or type of food ingested in the second part of the day. ...Read more

Possible stress?: When you say that your doctors do not see anything does that mean they have done endoscopies for the stomach and do not see ulcers? Have they done barium swallow's and not seen anything abnormal in the esophagus or elsewhere in the G.I. tract? Is there are no hiatal hernia on imaging exams or anything else? Have you been extremely stressed out or nervous about a particular thing recently? ...Read more
