Experiencing sharp, intermittent, burning pains in lower abdomen. Past history of ulcerative colitis, no current symptoms, no flare-up in 10 yrs.?

Ulcerative colitis: Low abdominal pain could be from many different causes but in a patient with a history of uc i'd certainly be concerned about a flare-up. When's the last time you had a colonoscopy? It's probably time to see you gastroenterologist.

Whenever I cough excessively, there's a tingling sensation under the right ribcage around the lower abdomen area. Its been like this for over months.

Tingling sensation: In the ribcage when coughing may be due to irritation to the nerves in this area. I advise a chest xray to make sure there is no problem in the lungs or ribs. Stay well.

The: The first thing you should do is see your doctor for an evaluation and work up. You may have a UTI (urinary tract infection). If no diagnosis is made then you can discontinue the supplements and monitor for improvement. Best of luck.

What causes burning sensations in lower abdomen in men. My husband has it and it comes and goes?

What causes burning sensations in lower abdomen in men. My husband has it and it comes and goes?

No short answer: A number of possibillities, if he does much lifting he may be straining the muscles. He may have a prostate infection (that's often back pain though). He could have diverticulosis (pockets in the intestine) and they may get obstructed and/or infected at times (more often left side). Also chronic appendicitis (right sided) is a possibility although the medical community disagrees on of it occurs.

I'm having a painful burning sensation in my front left lower abdomen. Is this something I should worry about?

I'm having a painful burning sensation in my front left lower abdomen. Is this something I should worry about?

Possibly: Pain in left lower quad may be pain arising in bowel just under left abdominal wall or referred from an additional site such as ureteral in origin. One must examine for rebound tenderness to see if pain related to peritonitis. If such signs present then CBC and possible scan needed.

What could cause a burning sensation in the lower abdomen that woke me up from my sleep. Went to use the bathroom but didn't help?

What could cause a burning sensation in the lower abdomen that woke me up from my sleep. Went to use the bathroom but didn't help?

More info needed: More information is needed to determine the cause of the burning sensation in the lower abdomen. Possibilities include urinary tract infection, pain associated with ovulation, infection in the reproductive tract, and inflammation in the bowel. Best to see a doctor for examination and appropriate tests.

Every once in a while (6-12months) I will have a burning sensation in my lower abdomen (intestinal area) no matter what I eat, what could cause this?

Several things: At your age the common things are gastritis, dietary indiscretion, colitis, eating too fast, gas, are some of the things that may cause your symptoms. I strongly advise you to consult with your family physician to rule out anything else that might be more serious.

I am a female with difficulty emptying my bladder. No pain, or burning, but I have to push on my lower abdomen to start urine flow?

I am a female with difficulty emptying my bladder. No pain, or burning, but I have to push on my lower abdomen to start urine flow?

You should: See a urologist to do an imaging study and possibly urodynamic studies. Your symptoms may be due to a change in the angle of your urethra and bladder. Or one of many other possibilities. A urologist should be able to help.

Is it normal that if I wake up earlier then usual I feel a burning like sensation in lower abdomen followed by the release of a lot of gas?

Is it normal that if I wake up earlier then usual I feel a burning like sensation in lower abdomen followed by the release of a lot of gas?

Incomplete digestion: Interesting observation. Would suggest making sure you get the same amount of sleep every night, meaning that if you have to wake up early you compensate by going to sleep earlier. Also keeping a food log may help in deciding if your symptoms have to do with sleep time or type of food ingested in the second part of the day.

Possible stress?: When you say that your doctors do not see anything does that mean they have done endoscopies for the stomach and do not see ulcers? Have they done barium swallow's and not seen anything abnormal in the esophagus or elsewhere in the G.I. tract? Is there are no hiatal hernia on imaging exams or anything else? Have you been extremely stressed out or nervous about a particular thing recently?

I've been getting sharp stabbing pain lower abdomen, feel the need to pass gas but can't, burning feeling around the chest area also?

Need to see MD: Regardless of your age these symptoms are always of concern and you should see your physician or if severe and acute go to an er. At 26 years of age the probability of something serious is low but not unhead of. Again these symptoms cannot be written off as not serious until after your physician does a thorough exam.
