Call doctor: Without much info it's hard to guess. If sudden onset, go to the er now. If this has been gradual and is part of other ongoing symptoms, you still need to call your doctor. Better safe than sorry!

Radiculopathy: Is what first comes to mind. Also known as a piched nerve in your neck. However there are other causes that need to be ruled out. It could be something as simple as a muscle spasm or something more serious. There are many questions and exam requirements to correctly identify the problem. A full history and a physical exam would be required to determine with any certainty.

R/O DISC DISEASE: Your description of the pain sounds neuropathic in nature. You need a full exam and focused Neuro exam. Full lab tests including TFTS /Vit b12/Vit d/ Lyme disease. If symptoms persist an you have increased knee reflexes, MRI of brain would be needed to evaluate for MS. If reflexes are weak or foot drop is present. Could be nerve root: Your description sounds like a cervical nerve root problem. Injury to the peripheral nerves exiting from your neck can cause pain, paresthesias (pins and needles), numbness, and/or weakness. You would benefit from a consultation with your doctor to delve into this issue further. Good luck to a quick recovery.
