Needs to be watched: In your age group, the most common causes are musculoskeletal problems that usually self-resolve. Esophageal spasm can cause deep middle pain. Acid reflux is also a possibility despite taking tums (calcium carbonate). Pain: Upper chest and back pain intermittently recurring after eating suggests gastronesophageal reflux. Gastritis or stomach ulcer are considerations.
