A hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall (such as inguinal, umbilical, incisional) or diaphragm (hiatal hernia). Surgery to repair the hernia can involve use of sutures, and possible use of mesh. Open or laparoscopic surgery can be a means to repair hernias, with laparoscopic ...Read more

Had hernia repair surgery last december right at the incision and above it jus have this burning pain got a nerve block yesterday but it got worst wa?
Strange,: As my belief was that maybe the pain was due to a peripheral nerve possibly caught in scar tissue. If the injection was in proper place but did not help I would go back to the surgeon -if he was not "the injector:"- let him/her examine you. First one have to eliminate that the complaint id from the surgery before looking for other possibilities. ...Read more

I had an incisional hernia repair july 2011 on the left side over a year ago I feel a terrible burning sensation on my left side of the belly button?
C Ur Surgeon First: Burning pain is typical of nerve irritation which is not uncommon following hernia repair. While this usually resolves within 6 months, it's persistence warrants intervention. I recommend that you see your surgeon just to be certain that no recurrence exists. If not, it would be appropriate to see a chronic pain specialist. They can identify the responsible nerve and deaden it. ...Read more

Two hernia surgery lst year in apr for repair and dec for mesh removal. I now have numb tingling, burning outer thigh and hurts to touch plus discolor?
Nerve Pain: After the initial hernia repair there is always a risk of nerve injury. When someone has gone through two inguinal surgeries there is a very high likelihood of injury to the ilioinguinal and genitofemoral nerve. This can lead to numbness and tingling of the inner thigh and medial groin area. There is also a risk of abscess or fluid collection which can lead to the discoloration. See UR Surgeon ...Read more
I had inguinal hernia surgery 6 months ago and about a week ago started feeling aches and burning like I did prior to open mesh surgery. Normal?
Not typically normal: These may be symptoms of recurrent hernia. Sometimes they can also be associated with scar formation causing entrapment of the ilioinguinal or iliohypogastric nerve. Either way, it would be best to bring this to the attention of the surgeon who repaired your hernia and go to him or her for an evaluation. ...Read more

I had right inguinal hernia surgery in 2010, burning, numbness and feeling of my cord being pulled by mesh, does mesh need to be removed?
Possibly.: Please revisit the surgeon who performed the surgery, if possible, for further recommendations, especially since your surgery was 4 years ago. If these are new symptoms, it may have moved or post-op adhesions may be bothering you. It is unusual for burning and numbness of the skin to occur 4 years after surgery. There may be a new process going on. ...Read more
I have been experiencing a burning or stabbing pain 3 weeks after inguinal hernia surgery. It comes and goes a few times a day. Is this normal?
Not really: Call your doctor, surgeon to let her/him know of this. You want to make sure the mesh is in place and not out of place stabbing you, or pushing on something that it shouldn't be. You have 90 days of post op care that's prepaid with your surgery. So, don't delay. Your surgeon needs to know this information. Good luck! ...Read more
I had open inguinal hernia surgery on my left side without mesh four weeks ago. I have been having burning & stabbing pain in groin with a dull ache?
Trajectory of pain?: If your pain is gradually getting better, I wouldn't worry about it yet. It should continue to improve. If it is worsening, see your surgeon. If it is not changed compared to prior to your operation, it might be due to something else. Your surgeon can help direct you the right direction. ...Read more

I had a ingunal hernia repair 3 weeks ago. The surgon did it open. I still have burning pain hard to get OOB and a lump under incison site is this ok?
Probably: It is not unusual to have pain 3 weeks after open hernia repair. The burning you feel could be the nerve and his too can be normal in the first few weeks. Both should be improving rather than worsening. If either of these are worsening or not improving over the next few weeks see your surgeon. ...Read more
I had an hernia repair with mesh 4years ago I have been getting a burning pain in my groin and genitals plus a very bloated stomach any ideas thanks.
Failed hernia repair: I am going to presume that you had an inguinal hernia repair. It seems that maybe that mesh has loosened and some bowel is coming through. This is why you have the referred pain to your groin. If your skin over the area is normal colored, you should call your PCP ASAP for an appointment. If the skin is darker than usual or purplish, you should go to the ER. ...Read more

I had inguinal hernia surgery w/ mesh 6 months ago. Now I have a pulling sensation in my groin. Saw my surgeon twice, he says it feels okay. Any ideas?
Time will heal: The mesh material can move very slightly, but this can cause pain. Usually the pain lasts for about 3 days and then subsides. If your doctor did not feel that the hrnia came back...Then you should be ok. Take Motrin or another ant-inflamatory agent but ask your doctor first so that you do not have a drug interaction. ...Read more

Hi, I have a hietus hernia, lately been having a burning sensation in chest also an uncomfortable feeling between chest, being sick clear sticky fluid.
Hiatal hernia: Small hernias are not to worry about. Your symptoms could be related to reflux disease, which is typically easily controlled with a variety of anti-acid medications. Large hernias, also called paraesophageal hernias, can also cause problems such as pain, difficulty eating, anemia, and bloating. Best to see your primary care provider for a proper eval. Take some tums (calcium carbonate) or rolaids in the meantime. I hope this helps! ...Read more
