Depends: Disc herniations that are large enough can cause nerve compression that will cause referred pain along the pathway of the nerve. The shoulder is mainly covered by nerves coming from the neck. There should also be referred pain into the upper arm or even hand. Yes: Neuropathic pain....Secondary to lumbar area disc / foraminal stenosis. See your pmd. Can be other more serious condition because of unusual disease. Simple vit B12 deficiency possible. ...Read more

Rheumatoid Disorder: At your age of 22, if you do not have a history of spine trauma or repetitive stress to the area, it sounds like you may have a rheumatolgical disorder. The typical ones at your age may be scheuermann's disease, ankylosing spondilitis or even diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis.
