See an osteopath: You're right hip injury needs to be looked at further. I would see an osteopathic physician, who can do a complete workup, spinal and hip evaluation, and also treat you. Also, s/he may need to order imaging as well, and review your entire family, medical, social, trauma history to see what may be contributory to the urinary tract issues that may need further work up by a specialist. ...Read more

May not be hip.: This can happen but is unusual. Hip pain usually is most pronounced in the groin and radiates down towards the knee. It is rare to have it radiate up to the abdomen. You should see a doctor with experience in this type of problem and be certain of the cause of the pain. Once the diagnosis is certain it will be much easier to decide on a treatment. Possibly a sciatica: A sciatica is caused by an irritation of a nerve in the back that then can cause pain that runs down the leg like you are describing. Tenderness: If you have significant (and asymmetric when compared to the opposite side) tenderness over the bursa, then likely bursitis. Referred pain does not cause tenderness. Gluteal tendonopathy often co-exists with bursitis. Consider a steroid injection into the bursa region, which can be diagnostic and therapeutic. ...Read more

Piriformis Pain: The sciatic nerve runs underneath the piriformis muscle and typically does not irritate the nerve. However if the muscle is irritated or the nerve runs through the belly of the muscle (5-10% of people) it can press on the sciatic nerve and cause the sciatica type pain in the buttock region but also radiate into the leg as well. Not surprising: You may be experiencing some inflammatory arthritis. Unlike osteoarthritis, that sometimes gets worse with use, inflammatory arthritis may get better with use. You become more aware of it at night because you have nothing else to think about. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms. He/she may want to run some other tests. ...Read more

Hip pain.: Hip pain could be from the joint itself, or from the surrounding tissues bursa, muscles and tendons. If the pain is bad enough see your doctor for physical and may be a xray. In the meantime you try an anti inflammatory medicne like advil or aleve (naproxen). ...Read more
