L5-S1 microdiscectomy Fri for left leg sciatic pain. Calf/foot pain relief w/some thigh/behind knee pain. Pain less AM but sharp pain down left leg into foot w/pain level of 9.5 & hurts sitting/lying.
Microdiskectomy: Give it some time; sometimes simply moving the roots around can upset the lumbar plexus and give you intermittent (even quite severe) pain, although it resolves within a week or two. Getting to the disk requires mobilization of the roots and inflammatory changes from that- or the disk herniation- itself can give this pain. Problems linked?: Heaviness of the leg and hip weakness may be due to a back problem (L 3-4). This would not cause pain in the ankle (local process if there truly is some swelling) I would have the muscle CPK checked (on statin drug) the weakness in the legs is typically symmetrical if due to statin drugs but can be noticed on one side initially. Many thoughts: You may have had the patella slip sideways or may have had a piece of cartilage get caught between the upper and lower leg bones. If there is no swelling, heat or redness, one may wish to ice the knee, take some Ibuprofen type medications for pain and rest the joint as much as possible for a few days. Patellofemoral: Sounds like patellofemoral syndrome which is a maltracking of the knee cap due to a muscular imbalance across the knee (weak quads and tight hamstrings). The symptoms include a grinding sensation and anterior knee pain with squatting, kneeling, and bending. This can be addressed with physical therapy.
