An xray or MRI may distinguish the causes. Also other possible diagnoses are gout and rheumatioid arthritis (which can be confirmed on simple labs). Microdiskectomy: Give it some time; sometimes simply moving the roots around can upset the lumbar plexus and give you intermittent (even quite severe) pain, although it resolves within a week or two. Getting to the disk requires mobilization of the roots and inflammatory changes from that- or the disk herniation- itself can give this pain. As long as bowel and bladder OK, hopefully this will resolve also. Best! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

When you lie down: on your spine, the nerve compression would worsen in that dependent position likely due to increased pressure and inflammation where the compression occurs. Usually nerve root compression occurs in the lower back (lumbar) and lying supine or on the side of the compression will worsen the symptoms. Standing up and leaning forward usually relieve symptoms for that reason. ...Read more

Early wear and tear: Pain coud be due to irritated/early wear of the patella cartilage or the surface cartilage of the thigh bone that rubs against the patella (try knee sleeve with a cutout for knee cap). Should I see a Orthopedic or a neurologist if I have burning knee pain it doesn’t go away with rest and is uncomfortable ?
Orthopedic : An orthopedic surgeon can do a detailed exam of the knee and entire lower extremity and could then get a neurologist involved if he thinks it is indicated. It sounds like it is a little more likely a knee issue than a neurological condition and so I think an orthopedist would be best to start with. Thank you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Right acute knee pain, burning and bruise- like feeling. Whole kneecap is worse, along its bottom. Stairs are very difficult to use, and it hurts any time i walk. Had a negative x- ray.
Patellofemoral pain?: Based on your description of the problem, your young age, and a negative x-ray, i'm suspicious that your pain may be patellofemoral in nature. If this is the case, exercises to strengthen the quadriceps can be very helpful. An elastic knee brace may also help. Since the symptoms are acute, it is possible that you have a torn tendon or ligament. Ultrasound or MRI can be very helpful. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
