Looks like allergy: appears you saw your md and got antibiotics. It is typically too long for a pure infection. Varies: There are a number of possibilities and I would not hesitate to be seen for am accurate diagnosis. Among the more common conditions is reflux disease, in which stomach acid can reflux into the lower esophagus and cause symptoms similar to what you are describing. ...Read more

Anxiety: Chest pain from anxiety is usually located over the heart and described as sharp pain. The pain usually increases when you breathe, but it doesn’t tend to continue more than a few minutes. Significant burning midway between sternum & naval, radiating into mid-back. Took 4 Tums (calcium carbonate) extrastrength. What else can I take, esp for back pain?

Burning: Do you have stomach pain, and signs of reflux? If the Tums (calcium carbonate) helped, then this would support a diagnosis of heartburn, reflux. You can also, if so is case, try ranitidine or see your MD for further help and confirmation of the diagnosis. ...Read more

Probably esophagus: Description is more for reflux of stomach content/acid into esophagus. Avoid coffee, tobacco, alcohol, fatty foos, spicy food, lying down after eating, eating before bedtime, chocolate. Short term ppi meds may help. Any shprtness of breath, sweats, etc see md asap. Sudden onset burning sensation right under sternum. I was cleaning dishes when it started, I ate about 2 hours ago, pain goes away upon sitting still?

Couple of things: This could be from pulling a muscle in between your ribs or it may be reflux disease due to what you ate for lunch. Try Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen and see if it goes away. If it is reflux it will happen again and then you can seek advice on treatment. If you experience shortness of breath you may need to be seen at the ER. ...Read more
