Depends: I would like to know where the pain starts. If it originates at the buttock it is possible that the problem could be coming from the back despite not having back pain. My advice would be to get an EMG to rule out a radiculopathy, consider imaging of L-spine and Right Hip, and based on these results decide further tx. A few things: It could be due to plantar fasciitis, an injury, overuse, worn out shoes, tarsal tunnel syndrome (think carpal tunnel but at the ankle level instead of wrist), arthritis, peripheral neuropathy due to radiculopathy (spinal nerve issues) or medical reasons (such as diabetes, thyroid or circulatory issues). Foot pain: Sounds like you may have other issues on top of ankle arthritis. Burning pain can be from several reasons, nerve impingement, neuropathy or nerve damage, back issues, etc. Heel pain could be from plantar fasciitis and this inflamed ligament can also cause swelling around the plantar nerves of the foot. Possible a nerve: Extremity nerve compression problems, tendinits or knee problems could cause your symptoms. More likley the burning down the leg could be from sciatica. Leg: There is condition called meralgia paresthetica which involves femoral nerve which is above sciatic nerve from upper lumbar region. There : There are several different possibilities for this: 1. If you are having pain when you walk, it could be a morton's neuroma (this is a benign-noncancerous condition). It is basically a nerve ending that gets too big. It does not hurt if you push on it and is treated with steroid injection. 2. If it hurts when you walk, it could be plantar fasciitis also. This is usually more of the whole bottom of the foot that hurts. 3. It could be a neurologic issue; your nerves are sending messages for some reason that are abnormal.
