See a neurologist: Pain sensitive structures include the median nerve itself. A good exam and nerve conduction study are probably indicated. CRP and RSD are uncommon. CTS is common. Exclude this first with the NCV. Hold off on more aggressive therapy until you know exactly what the problem is. Denervation hypersensitivity is difficult to treat (following ganglion block procedure) CTS is easy to treat. ...Read more

I am on my feet all day b/c of work but now whenever I sit down I have a burning throbbing pain in upper legs. Nothing seems to ease the pain. Hurts!

From your history,: This is likely related to you activity, what you are doing while on your feet, especially your posture (s), what kind of shoes (possibly clothes) which you are wearing, etc, and is challenging the use of and blood flow to the muscles in your upper legs. This would be consistent with the throbbing: increased blood flow attempting to catch up to repair the persistent stress to these muscles. ...Read more

Evaluation needed: I recommend that you see a hand surgeon as you may have injured yourself beyond a sprain. History and physical exam performed by an experienced hand surgeon will help to determine if there are any more serious injuries. A simple x-ray can determine if there are any fractures and if necessary further imaging may be necessary for ligament tears. If it is just a sprain recovery can take 3-6 wk. ...Read more

While: While these symptoms are typical of carpal tunnel syndrome, there can be a variety of causes. If you want a simple check, buy any of the over-the-counter "computer" or "carpal tunnel" braces to wear at night. I prefer to straighten the stay (metal part that makes the splint rigid) to a neutral wrist position, with the fingers in line with the forearm, rather than tipping the wrist back where the thumb is in line with the forearm. The straighter splint takes the most pressure off the nerve. If it relieves your symptoms, it's more likely that you have carpal tunnel syndrome.

Depending on your age, general health, location of symptoms within the hand, and any motor or sensory loss, there may be other conditions and treatments to consider. Numbness that persists throughout the day or weakness in the hand requires immediate evaluation by a trained hand surgeon. ...Read more

Shingles?: There isn't enough information to answer your question, but if this has been a problem for just a day or two, and you have had no injury to the area or to your lower back, I would consider possible shingles.
