An exam would tell: "bumps under the skin are not uncommon and are usually benign, or harmless to your health. most commonly they are a type of cyst or fat deposit (lipoma). If the lump does not change in character or size and is not causing problems like pain you are likely not to fear. Cyst or lipoma?: You didn't mention any pain so it's like likely to be an infectious process like cellulitis or abscess. Cysts & glands can often swell up as the pore gets clogged then resolve on their own w/o getting infected or causing pain. Lipoma is a benign (non-cancerous) fatty growth just under the skin. Contact Rash: Typically if you have a one sided specific area it may be related to something you have come in contact with. Make sure you see your primary doctor, and initially look for what may be coming in contact with that area. Also note if there is pus, or redness in the area. ?Hives: Sounds like you may have hives which would be an allergic reaction. You can try taking some Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and see if that helps. If the rash persists, spreads, or you develop fever, make sure you get in to see you physician. Good Luck! ...Read more

Keratosis pilaris: No cure. Worse in winter. Less obvious as you get older. Related to dry skin. OTC 3% salicylic acid creams are used to make it smoother. Frequent application of moisturizers helps.
