It is caused when the duct to a minor salivary gland gets clogged or traumatized and the saliva backs up forming a fluid filled bump. Lip bump...: This could be an enlarged salivary gland or cyst, but it sounds most likely like a mucocele, or a mucous retention cyst. These can form when a tiny salivary gland duct in the lip is damaged or injured, obstructing the flow of mucous and causing a cyst. You may have herpes: Simplex one. If you go to the doctor they can give you a prescription for valtrex (valacyclovir). If indeed it is herpes this will help speed up the healing process.
