No way to know: Unfortunately, we can rarely diagnose a rash by a description. Many of the words that patients use to describe rashes are nonspecific. There are many 'doctor words' that aid in description: macule, papule, plaque, pustule, vesicle, and many, many more. Even when doctors describe rashes to one another, it is sometimes difficult to visualize the rash. A picture is worth a 1000 words. ...Read more

Itchy rash with bumps. Really itchy at night on shins and forearms?

Possobly hives: If the itchy bumps go away in 24 hrs, and then come back; or they have an appearance of " moving around", they are probably hives. Itchy?: This sounds like it might be contact dermatitis.... your skin may be reacting to something it came in contact with, like poison ivy, metals, detergents, etc. If it is itchy, try hydrocortisone 1% cream. If that doesn't help, or it is very warm, painful, spreading, or draining pus, it may be infected and you should get it checked by a doctor. ...Read more

I have a rash on forearms & thighs. Skin colored, slightly pink. Not itchy. Small bumps all over, not patchy. Possibly allergic reaction to z-pack?

Many possibilities: This could be a reaction to a z-pac, a new food, or some other exposure. I would hold stop the med for now and contact your pcp in the am. S/he may want to change the med or have you evaluated. This med is going to be in your system for a while. So more rash may continue to come up for some time. ...Read more

My 8th mnt daughter has skin rashes on head, elbows, knee, bumps, cheeks, neck, arm. Her dad has psoriasis. Cud it be d same n is it serious? Using cetaphil.

Itchy?: At this young age, I would be more suspicious of eczema (atopic dermatitis) which may be linked to food allergies as well as airborne allergens. If these rash itch, then eczema is more likely. If you are using Cetaphil lotion, be sure to use it regularly and apply it within 3 mins after bathing. Talk to your pediatrician. A discussion of eczema can be found elsewhere. ...Read more
