Head bump: Tough to say without an exam. It could be a scalp cyst, which are very common, or you may have bumped it and just forgot, and now have a small bruise/bump there. If the latter, it should resolve, if other causes and it doe not resolve, then get the area evaluated and examined. Good luck. ...Read more

Hi I have a bump in the back of my head and it hurts when I couch its like my whole head hurts when I cough and it hurts my bump

Try ice or heat: There are several things that can cause swelling and pain in the back of the head. IT can be a skin cyst, which may be infected. It could also be an area of trauma from bumping your head. It could be an enlarged and infected lymph node. I suggest trying ice or heat for 10 min to see if it improves. If you have a fever, chills, significant swelling or pus from the area, I suggest seeing a doctor. ...Read more

Inflammation &/or an: Infection. You need an in-person exam by a provider that can lay eyes on it. If it's a hair follicle infection, it's called a furuncle, which, without treatment, can progress to cellulitis &/or abscess. If >1 follicle gets involved, then it's a carbuncle. Talk to your doc about need for drainage, aspiration, culture, empiric antibiotic treatment. If lymphadenitis, use ultrasound & needle biopsy. ...Read more

Hi. : Hi. It sounds like the bump is on the outside of your skull — so don't worry about brain cancer. You may have a cyst. If you are an older person (especially if you don't have a lot of hair) and you have had a lot of sun exposure — it could be a skin cancer. If it is a cyst, they often resolve on their own. If it doesn't, then you can have a dermatologist take a look and make a definitive diagnosis. ...Read more

I've just found a spot on the back of my head that whenever I happen to find it hurts like I've bruised it but it's not a bump or visible.

See an osteopathic doctor: It may be difficult to determine why this is happening unless it is physically examined by an osteopathic physician. You receive more information, once this examination is done. ...Read more

Skin infection: This sounds like a skin infection which is common in that area of the head. Don't scratch or peel the skin eruptions. Clean it with soap and water, apply Some antiseptic cream on it (no hydrocortisone!) and see your PCP soon. This infection can be very resistant and can rapidly spread. ...Read more

E.O.P.: If it is immobile, it is probably the external occipital protuberance of the occipital bone. This is the insertion point for the trapezium and ligamentum nuchae. It is almost exactly as you describe. Sebaceous cysts can be hard but are sometime fluctuant and are usually mobile. ...Read more
