Bump On My Achilles Tendon
What can I do about scar tissue (a raised bump) on my Achilles tendon, which causes pain and interferes with footwear?
Hi is it possible to be allergic to certain shoes? I have itchy bumps on both my Achilles' tendons and up both legs...? Thanks
Allergy to anything: is possible, Why? Allergy reflects a human response, often involving immune system, & humans (as sensitive intelligent creatures) can respond in all kinds of ways to almost any stimulus, situation or thing. All this is coordinated at a mind/brain level, yet often promoted as only a mysterious body response with treatments for only symptom(s) offered/promoted. Bigger picture routinely more helpful. ...Read more
Options: It may take a physical examination to get to the bottom of things. Clearly, it could be a "growth" or just an enlargement of existing tissues. The enlargement could be from the bone immediately under the tendon, on the tendon or from the tissues immediately on top of the tendon. Whether it is new growth, part of a repair process or due to mechanical irritation are just some of the subtleties. ...Read more

My active, athletic 19-year old son has pain in his Achilles tendon. He also feels a slight bump. What is it and what to do?
Go see the doctor...: The achilles tendon may have been injury and the bump may be noting the area. Have it checked because the injury may have occurred days, weeks, months before and the "bump" may be scar tissue that has developed. If unchecked, there is a risk of rupture. Don't wait until that happens. See the doctor and have it examined properly. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Retrocalcaneal spur?: If the bumps are located at or near the site of the achilles tendon attachement to the heel bone (calcaneus), these painless bumps are known as retrocalcaneal bursitis.
