Heel spur on back of foot &below back of foot. Achilles tendinitis visible bump on the side opposite of the ankle. Been years. Pains unbearable. Help?

Sick Achilles.: Your comments sound like the findings of a previous x-ray exam. I'm not sure what is meant by "bump on the opposite side of the ankle". If it is in the Achilles tendon, then extreme pain, could make sense. It sounds as though there is something amiss with your Achilles tendon. It would make sense to immobilize the ankle, and begin non-weight bearing until tendon imaging studies can be performed ...Read more

Heel Pain (Definition)

Is most commonly caused by an inflammation of the plantar fascia (plantar fasciitis), but by no means is it the only cause. There are many, many things that can cause your heel to hurt, and the only way to find out which one it is is to visit a podiatrist or orthopedist. A good history and physical together with x-rays and sometimes an MRI ...Read more

Have spur on the back of my foot and below my heel. Achilles tendinitis (visible on the back of my foot). Pain is excruciating 24-7-365. What can I do?

Over used heel.: It sounds like you are describing a posterior calcaneal spur with associated Achilles tendinitis. Stopping, or severely reducing, the pull of the Achilles tendon is the first line of treatment. Application of heat and/or cold will help, but the tendinitis inflammation must be reduced and off loading is the best way. Elevated heels on your shoes may help. An evaluation by a specialist is needed. ...Read more

Painless bumps on the back of both Achilles tendons?

Retrocalcaneal spur?: If the bumps are located at or near the site of the achilles tendon attachement to the heel bone (calcaneus), these painless bumps are known as retrocalcaneal bursitis. If foot xrays are taken and reveal a bone spur, then the condition is called retrocalcaneal exostosis. Achilles heel pain: The achilles tendon runs up the back of the leg. If this tendon is tight or strained it becomes sore. This tendon is formed from three muscles that form the calve. Such a condition can cause rupture if it doesn't get the proper rest and treatment. ...Read more
