I have the bullseye rash around a tick bite but no other symptoms of Lyme disease. Should i still get a test done?

Get Rx & blood test!: A bullseye rash around a tick bite is considered proof of lyme disease. If you do not have symptoms yet, you almost certainly will over time. It takes time for a blood test to turn positive & you should not wait for this; the earlier you start treatment the better the outcome. Many lyme specialists advise Doxycycline 200 mg 2x/day for a month to be safe. Also get tested for co-infections like babesia. ...Read more

I have a bullseye rash around a tick bite but do not have any other symptoms of Lyme disease. Do I need to get a blood test?

Not just Lyme: Avoid being "lyme-centric"! depending on geography, there are several other tick borne diseases ( e.g. Anaplasmosis, babesia, human monocytic or granulocytic erlichiosis) that co-infects with lyme (caused by b. Burgdorferi), or else , the diagnosis is something other than lyme (eg. Relapsing fever caused by b. Hermsii & southern tick -associated rash illness [stari] caused by a diffferent tick. ...Read more

Could you get Lyme disease from a mosquito? I've been bite numerous times while sleeping and have a bullseye rash on my arm.

Could you get Lyme disease from a mosquito? I've been bite numerous times while sleeping and have a bullseye rash on my arm.

Lyme is from ticks: Mosquitoes don't transmit Lyme only ticks can do that. If you have a bulls eye rash though that could very well be Lyme. Sometimes the ticks are so unbelievably small u can't see them. It looks like u live in New England and it's summer so I consider it peak Lyme season. If the rash is bigger than 5 cm in diameter and is expanding it's probably Lyme. Show it to an MD and get some antibiotics pls! ...Read more

Does it ever happen that a child have a bullseye bite mark and not have Lyme disease?

NO!!!: A true bullseye rash, known as erythema chronic migrans, is considered pathognomonic of lyme- meaning it alone is sufficient evidence to diagnose l:yme. It is imperative to treat lyme aggressively as soon as possible to prevent chronic infections, ideally for a month. See http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/erythema_chronicum_migrans & http://www.Lymenet.Org/burrguide200810.Pdf (see page 18 & 19). ...Read more

I have a bullseye bruise on my arm. The center is not bruised, but is raised slightly. it does not look red like the lyme disease pics look.

Likely not Lyme but: The most likely explanation is that this is just a bruise, unless you've been hiking in deer tic infested forests recently. I would discuss with your primary doctor who can test you for Lyme if he/she thinks it is possible. ...Read more

5 days sore throat, severe body/joint ache & fever (100-102). Thought it was strep or virus, but today i find a bullseye-like bite on my trunk. Can it be Lyme disease? Is it too early for blood test?

Epidemiology : When early lyme is suspected, the diagnosis is based on clinical grounds. Taking a picture of the rash & having a doctor examine it before it disappear is advisable. Other things can cause a bulls eye rash such as a fixed drug eruption, southern tick-associated rash illness, etc. Early recognition is very important. Its too early for an antibody blood test. Epidemiology will help your doc answer. ...Read more
