Treatment is just with ibuprofen, fluids, and waiting it out. 5-10% of cases are caused by the strep germ (strep throat), and this is treated with penicillin or other comparable antibiotics. What is the difference between sore throat and pharyngitis...In diagnosis, in treatment and in causes?
No difference: A sore throat is common lay persons jargon for a possible pain and inflamation in the throat whereas Pharyngitis is the professional medical term for inflammation and infection of the throat (pharynx). Thus technically there is minimal difference and whist a sore throat is the presenting complaint of a patient, pharyngitis is the diagnosis by the physician Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is itchy, sore throat (w/ coughs) normally accompanied by warm sensation around neck? Had sore throats bfore w/o warm sensation. Home remedies/treatment?
Could you have a chronic sore throat from years of bulimia now even if you're recovered almost 3 years of the disease?
Consider evaluation: It's unlikely though possible if you have a history of induced vomiting. Other causes of chronic sore throat could be due to vocal cord dysfunction or untreated acid reflux. If I had gotten an std, would my sore throat have gone away after a week without treatment, or would it still be sore?
Around Sept. 2014 I had a very sore throat that went away without treatment, now I have a white patch behind tonsil that hasn't left since. Cancer?
Have post nasal drip sore throat and body aches. What's the best course of treatment? Will it go away on own? Thank you,
Maybe: If it is allergies you can take Allegra (fexofenadine) over the counter and this will improve your problem. If the sore throat is an issue you can see a doctor and get screened for strep so you do not have to take antibiotics unecessarily. Ofte time the antiseptic mouthwashes if gargled daily can improve the situation. The body aches can also resolve simply with excedrin. Drink fluids. See a doctor if worried. Read more
