Bulging Disk (Definition)

Wear and tear can cause degeneration in the vertebral column, and cause discs to deteriorate. The supportive basket, nucleus fibrosis develops small tears. A bulge is minimal perhaps a few millimeters, and is clinically insignificant, but additional disc displacement such as protrusion or herniation may compress ...Read more

Why is My left index finger tingling&numbness.have herniated disc in neck &moderatedisc bulge inlumbar spine &sciatica.

Tingling finger: A tingling finger can be from anywhere in your central nervous system, including your brain and spinal cord, or peripheral nerves, impinged anywhere from the spinal cord to the finger itself, including in the wrist. A full exam is necessary. Given your history of a herniated disc in your neck, you may have radiculopathy radiating from that level to a particular dermatome in your hand. Call your MD ...Read more

Herniated disc in spine. Now wnat?

Herniated disc in spine. Now wnat?

See a doctor: I assume you have had an MRI to know this. A herniated disc may cause leg pain and numbness, but with medications, physical therapy, injections, the symtpoms may resolve. However, if the pain persists, or you develop weakness you should see a spine surgeon for further evaluation. ...Read more

severe lower back pain, reduced spinal flexibility,MRI : L4-L5 & L5-S1 herniated & bulge, lumbar straightened , internal lump lower back ?

Unsure therapy: With low back pain, there are a number of options depending on historical aspects. Unclear on "lumbar straightened" or the internal lump finding. Suggest strongly that you see the physician who ordered these imaging tests to create a care plan to address. Recent studies have suggested physical treatments like yoga or pilates are helpful more than use of drugs like opioids. ...Read more

Do bulging discs or herniated disc heal?

Weeks to Months: Generally most people can get relief from sciatic pain doing the conservative care within 3-6 weeks. If it persists after that, it can take up to 6 months to heal by itself. Consider core strengthening exercises while you are on your own at home. You may still be a candidate for epidural steroid injections that may help relieve the pain while your body heals itself. ...Read more

Increasing numbness limbs constant pain and spasms in lower & upper back & down left leg, MRI lumbar showed bulge disk L4 l5, rotatory scoliosis causes

Nonspecific: Believe it or not, scoliosis does not cause pain for most patients - unless the scoliosis is very severe. Similarly, a disk bulge is often of no consequence, and is simply a normal finding as we age. See a physician (consider seeing a neurologist since you have numbness) for further evaluation. ...Read more

Bulging neck disk, herniated lb disk, psoriatic arthritis, lordosis, traveling pain, & nerve pain horrible 24/7 in all i do. Finished lifting weights?

Yes to heavy weights: Exercise is an essential part of the treatment of a disk problem. Using light weights and increased repetitions under the supervision of a therapist is ok. You should not be lifting heavy weights. You should also see a rheumatologist if you have psoriatic arthritis. This can be ( there are several forms) a progressive crippling disease which is treatable. ...Read more

Numbness and tingling anterior lower left leg 9 months after spinal stenosis surgery?

Numbness and tingling anterior lower left leg 9 months after spinal stenosis surgery?

Is this a recurrence: Are these new symptoms or a recurrence from symptoms you had prior to surgery? Although we always hope for the most long lasting and optimal results following back surgery the reality is spinal canal stenosis is a chronic and progressive disease. Repeat surgeries are risky so be wary especially if the 1st surgery didn't "hold" after such a short period of time. ...Read more

Pain in back near spine straight back from belly button? (Not on spine itself)

Doctor can check: Back pain on either side of the spine (called flank pain by doctors) can be caused by kidney disease, especially if the person doesn't remember hurting her back by lifting or working too much. Other abdominal problems can also show up as back pain, so evaluation by a doctor is needed. A doctor generally examines the liver, stomach, pancreas, and intestine areas for possible problems, too. ...Read more

Herniated disk -> back pain-sudden change in pain?

There can be changes: Disc herniations can present in various ways & change their pain pattern as they heal or progress or even recur as in 5% of cases. They can initially present as back pain & then radiate to a leg(s) & back pain will improve or stay the same. Leg pain can start as initial pain & improve & back pain can get worse & then resolve (centralization). Sometimes there is no pain, just neurologic issues. ...Read more

Can herniated discs, stenosis t-spine with loosening hardware from fusion cause pain in buttocks, groin and lower legs with weakness?

Can herniated discs, stenosis t-spine with loosening hardware from fusion cause pain in buttocks, groin and lower legs with weakness?

Possibly: It seems like your fusion goes from the lower Tspine into the Lspine so yes there is a possibility that if the fusion has failed and/or if disc herniation are present this could cause many of your pain symptoms in buttock, groin area. The weakness seems to suggest a neurological process that could come from T or Lspine. Incontinence, spasticity, balance problems are other things to look out for. ...Read more

How effective are lower back surgeries for for bulging disc n are there any side effects. Does it limit u from doing certain things?

How effective are lower back surgeries for for bulging disc n are there any side effects. Does it limit u from doing certain things?

Be careful: Studies have shown a poor correlation between a "bulging disc" and the presence of back pain. Some would consider back surgery only in the presence of definite abnormalities of the neurological exam with leg (and not just back) symptoms. Removal of parts of the disc with fusion can be done but even if successful there can be emerging problems later at the disc sites above/below the current site. ...Read more
