Yesterday, I noticed a slight lump/bulge on my upper left abdomen below my rib cage after dinner. It is not painful. Is this anything to worry about?
Not yet.: I wouldn't worry too much just yet. It could be a harmless cyst or deposit of fat called a lipoma. It's something your doc should check out - not urgently, though. If it's not painful and you have no other symptoms, it could be done within 1-2 weeks. ...Read more
I have a small bulge on my upper right side under a rib cage. It comes and goes and it is painful to touch. Usually it happens after exercise.
The best advice I can offer is to get a history and physical examination by a good doctor.
It may be a hernia, the chance of this would increase if you've had an operation in the area. It may even be a normal variation of standard anatomy.
The best way to evaluate it is with a physical examination. Ask the doctor to examine you while you simulate the circumstances of its occurrence. ...Read more

Is the small bulge under my right rib cage cancerous? It's just a slight bulge under my right rib cage and it's causing a sharp pain. The pain is constant but when I laugh the pain also comes
Hello.: Hello. I am not able to visualize what area of the torso you are referring to. However, most of us have an area that is just below the breast bone that can feel like a bulge. It is called the xiphoid process and it is cartilage that is attached to the base of the breastbone or sternum. It can become inflammed and sore. If you are feeling something different and it appears to be a mass; I suggest getting it checked out by your doctor. Not all bumps are cancerous. ...Read more

My Mother in law has a Hernia Or an Ulcer (Golf ball Size bulge above her belly button right below her rib cage, it ruptured today is that deadly?
Urgent visit: You should take her to seek medical attention this morning. If that means an ER visit, then go. If in fact it is a hernia, any skin ulceration is a potentially life threatening condition. Not immediate like a gun shot wound, but something that need to be looked and treated within hours. Given the time it takes to get to, and in to the ER, then evaluated, etc., you should go now. Hope this helps! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Muscle spasms under right rib cage with something bluging like a hernia below the breast bone. Sometimes I have to push it back in. Sever pain.
Muscle spasm: This could be a muscle spasm. I have heard this description many times before. Hernias do not occur in the upper abdomen by the rib cage. They do occur in the middle. The muscle spasm can cause severe pain, and "ball up", mimicking a hernia. Best however to see your primary care provider for a more complete evaluation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Rib pain: The rib cage does not often become painful and swollen, unless there was some direct injury to the area (rib fracture/contusion) or some indirect sprain/strain to the muscle/ligament structures (costochondritis...).
