Breast self-exam: Breast self-examination refers to breast examinations done by women on themselves. Doing regular examinations allows us to get the feel for what is normal - and see our doctors if we feel something new or different. A lump or thickening should be evaluated. For women with periods, it's best to check after the period when breasts are less lumpy and tender due to hormone fluctuations. Lgromko md. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Variants of same dis: Cjd is the classic form of the disease in humans. Bovine spongiform encephalopathy affects bovines, but it has been transmitted to humans through eating the meat of cows sick with bse and causes a variant form of cjd in humans. Both are prion diseases and uniformly fatal. ...Read more
Docs told BSE is not recommended. So a bad lump would be felt in daily activities such as showering or dressing? Not by rigorous BSE?
I tested for antithyroglobulin antibody and the result is 1.7, is it a worrying situation ? Bse was told that I have hyperpeethyridism.
Anti-thyroglobulin: Antibodies that react with a protein in the body are not typically normal however, about 10% of normal persons do have this antibody. This can also be associated with hashimoto's thyroiditis, thyroid cancer and chronic urticaria (hives). Make sure your doctor understands these issues or see an endocrinologist. ...Read more
Not likely: I think there is probably no brain or nerve tissue in this. Also I think there has been no mad cow disease in USA in recent years. However, the epidemic among British milk cows was traced to bone meal and meat added to their feed. Prions tend to survive heating. Since the US govt does not regulate these supplements you cannot know exactly how it was made. Why take this useless supplement, anyway? ...Read more
No: The few people who got vJCD was through eating beef with bone in, from animals fed animal products. ...Read more

Monthly if desired: The value of breast self exams (bse) in the early detection of breast cancer is not settled. Instead, a clinical breast exam (cbe) should be done by a health professional (e.g. Family physician) on a regular schedule such as every 3-6 months. If self exam is desired then the correct tchnique has to be practiced and verified by your doctor first. After that, a monthly bse can be done. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hi doctor my question is my wife ha a still birth and she was told to wait for 3months..When can she conceive bse we have tried n no results yet. What?
Ok for a woman in 30's to rely on clinical breast exams if she has anxiety doing breast awareness?Always finding things and stressing when doing bse.
It's OK, but better: Even better, if you can find a woman's clinic or willing professional (nurse would be fine) to teatch you how, including interpretation of your 'findings'. To offer an tactile example of a 'bad' lump so you can know what that is. I admit I'd also be unsure of what that would be. Hey, I should find a teacher too. This can work for other concerns too. Learning can lower stress of the unknown. Best! ...Read more
Is breast tissue supposed to be symmetrical ? Meaning, when I do a BSE, the "landscape" of the tissue of my left breast pretty much matches the right
Generally, yes: Most women have fairly symmetrical breast tissue architecture from one side to the other. It is very common to have mild asymmetry in terms of size. It is even common to find different architecture within different areas of the same breast. Your best value in doing BSE is detecting a difference in any area of the breast compared to previous BSE's. ...Read more

Can endo cause lumpy tender breasts? Also can prodding to hard bse cause soreness? Not sure if what I'm feeling is normal Had breast checked 3mths ago
Left breast lump found on BSE; had mammogram followed by U/S. Complex cyst w/debri (5mm) identified. Told to have repeat mammogram in 1 year but how do I know for sure the "debri" isn't worrisome? Should I get 2nd opinion or request biopsy?
Breast cyst.: Given that your age does put you at risk for breast cancer, unfortunately, with or without a family history of such, a second opinion wouldn't hurt. Complex cysts are a bit more worrisome than simple cysts as they have some contents. I wouldn't panic right now, but a second opinion or a breast MRI wouldn't be a bad idea. ...Read more
