Bruising From Strain In Leg Of Older Man
I have a calf strain, am on crutches for 8 days now. Today developed bruising down my chin of the injured leg. Is this a problem?
Yes: Bruising generally indicates breaking of blood vessels. This is serious business anywhere. However the lower leg is considered the 2nd heart of the body and a malfunction of blood vessels can create a thrombus that can circulate to your heart and/or lungs and end you life. Off and on hamstring pain for a year. This is the 6th "flare" with a bruise on my upper thigh. The pain is in the middle/bottom. Strain or worse?
Investigation needed: It sounds like you may have a partially torn tendon which keeps giving you grief. See a physiotherapist or doctor who can arrange an Ultrasound scan of your thigh to determine the cause of pain. If the bruising is spontaneous then there may be further concerns of a bleeding into the muscle tissue and you may need blood tests to rule out a bleeding / clotting disorder ...Read more
Bleeding: When you sprain the mcl, you tear the ligament. This caused bleeding in the location of the tear. You probably elevated the knee, so the blood travelled behind your knee and collected where you see bruising. That is completely normal. It may even become sore in the bruised area because of an inflammatory response. ...Read more

1yr old has bruise on leg bloods came back platlelet 90 neutrophils 0.7 why are the requesting second blood test?
Confirmation: The numbers you give are not very helpful but platelets of 90(thousand) are on the low side. What .7 neuts refers to is confusing. You repeat a test to see if the initial test was wrong, the levels change or to define the problem more clearly. Low platelets could be a technical glitch, a problem with production or excessive destruction.Further testing narrows your search. ...Read more
My three year old son has random bruises all over his legs. They are small and seems to be a new one added every day. What could this be?
Bruising in 3 yo boy: If your son is really active and these areas experience frequent trauma (as most boys do), that is normal. If bruising happens when there is no trauma or is wide spread or if bruises are really deep, it needs an evaluation right away. If your baby is not more active than usual, please take him to his pediatrician to be evaluated. ...Read more
Red swollen hot to touch spots on right leg , about 4 inches round , last for a few days then bruise before going away I am 20 years old, female.?
Infection?: Red hot swollen spots make me think of infection, perhaps abscess or folliculitis, or sebaceous cysts. Abscesses don't usually go away by themselves but rather need to be drained. Folliculitis might come & go but not usually 4" in diameter (that's huge!). Not common to have several sebaceous cysts in one area. Go see your family doc for evaluation, testing & treatment. Perhaps bleeding disorder? ...Read more

Can a one year old child pull a muscle or strain their leg? My daughter is very active and it pains her too walk? Any thoughts?
Sprain vs. Fracture: If she is not able to put weight on the leg, she needs to have X-rays taken. There are certain fractures, most notably toddlers' fractures of the tibia, that are often diagnosed clinically even if X-rays are normal. These injuries need to be immobilize to ensure proper healing. ...Read more
I am a 19 year old female with random bruising. The bruises on my legs are both large and small but appear randomly. Somedays I have 15 bruises?
You need a med check:
Bruises can be caused by one or more blood disorders. So you should see a doctor(PCP is fine to start with). Blood thinners like Aspirin or anticoagulant medicines (if you are taking any pills) may be the cause.
The first thing to check is a complete blood count(CBC) as you might have a low platelet count which can cause persistent bruising. This can be a serious matter, so do not delay medical-ch ...Read more
I have a 6 year old daughter. Here lately when she bumps into something she bruises immediately and they are mostly on her legs. What should I do?
Not to worry unless-: If these bruises are on prominent parts of her body - anterior shins, areas that kids frequently bump, i would do nothing. They are part of childhood. If you are seeing bruises in weird places - inner thighs or arms, genital region, armpit- or if your child has any other unusual bleeding like nose bleeds, gum bleeding with tooth brushing, then i would talk with your doc about lab work for bleeding. ...Read more

My 5 yr old daughter has several bruises in her lower legs but not in other part of her body is this normal ?
Bruising Below: In pediatric patients of this age group it is very common to see bruising to the anterior legs (shins) and thigh areas. These are often caused by an active child exploring and playing in their world. Frequently they trip and fall, run into objects or strike themselves with toys or other objects which result in the bruising. Most bruises are in various stages of resolution (color) and harmless. ...Read more

but they are all the same size. Not raised or itching.

Hi, my 2 year old daughter came up with a rash on her leg they were like red but then a spot in the middle but now they have turned into bruises?
My son is 2 years old he has bruises on his legs I have no idea where they are coming. I think he is hitting his legs on his crib while he is sleep.
?just legs?: If the bruises are truly just on his anterior legs where 2 year olds are constantly falling, bumping into toys and furniture etc, i would not be concerned too much. Would mention to doc next time you are there. However, if bruises are on inner parts of legs (that wouldn't normally be bumping into something) or are on lots of other areas of body, needs to be checked out! ...Read more
I have a large bruise on my lower leg that gets darker and more painful when I stand but decreases when the leg is elevated. I do have varicose vein issues. The bruise is now 2 weeks old and getting g worse not better ?
Venous return.: It would seem that your condition and symptoms are related to venous pressure. Standing slows the return, therefore the color intensifies. Elevation assists the return, therefore, the color fades. You need to see a vein specialist to see if there is an associated vessel problem or is the problem due to trauma. ...Read more
My 2.5 month old baby is always grunting and it sounds like she's straining her voice. She also pushes her legs straight out. What does this mean?
Normal events: At this age infants make a wide collection of sqeaking & grunting sounds that have no significance. They have rubbery, pliable airways that vibrate to make additional sounds & they have no social skills, they don't care if the noise they make is odd or not. The legs placement response is also normal until 6 -9 mo. When it becomes less frequent or dissapears. ...Read more

23yr old female. Night sweats every night, extreme fatigue, bruising very easily on legs. Ongoing for 6 months. Basic bloodwork normal. Suggestions?
You need a full exam:
The symptoms you are discussing can be unrelated or more likely a sign of significant disease. Temp fluctuation give night sweats so does the weather we are having recently hot one night cold the next but you add extreme fatigue and easy bruiseability. This now makes things a bit more ominous and can be signs a medical cond. I would see internist and hematologist
