The appendix is a piece of tubing located at the bottom of the colon on the right lower part of the abdomen. It has no known function in modern humans, but was thought to possibly be a type of extra stomach back in our cavepeople days. Currently it's only purpose is to get infected ...Read more

No: Blood from one of the trocar sites may be moving down to the region of the penis. Not normal but can happen on occasion. I have just had my appendix removed. Do I need to change my diet until the post-surgery pain improves? Is 'gurgling' or trapped wind common post-op?
Very common, post op: Your diet post appendecomy should be soft and bland with slow advancement to a more normal diet. Post surgery 'gas' and 'gurgling' is normal. Surgical removal of the appendix causes the rest of the small/large bowel to act irregular and irritable. This should slowly regain a normal flow pattern. Avoid heavy foods with high bulk. Avoid gas forming foods. Add probiotics, yogurt. Avoid constipation. ...Read more

My son had his appendix removed laproscopicly on June 20th 2017 since his cooperation he has lost weight he has gone from 115 lbs to 98 lbs. Normal?
I don't think so.: He should have gained back a good bit of his weight by now. If his appetite has decreased then there is a reason why. An occult infection or inflammation would be a consideration, although being so far out from his surgery would make this less likely. He should have further evaluation by his primary care physician to determine the cause. ...Read more

My boyfriend had appendix removed a year & a half ago, and he complains of a sore/ itchy scar esp when its cold. Why does it happen, how do we fix it?

Various topical medications could be tried including topical steroids like hydrocortisone. The scar could be injected with long acting steroids such as triamcinolone. Its possible the scar needs to be resected (cut out) and restitched. ...Read more
