Concern for fracture: Following on an outstretched wrist is the most common mechanism for fracture of the scaphoid bone. If initial swelling has resolved but you are still having pain, x-rays are suggested. It is important not to miss this fracture early. Long-term problems can develop with an occult scaphoid fracture. Left ball-like wrist bone (ulna bone?) got "bigger" than the one in the right wrist. Nothing moves, no pain, it seems just bone. Possible causes?

Doctor can evaluate: If the end of the bone looks and feels bigger, without any pain or other symptoms, nor a history of trauma, then a primary care doctor can evaluate and check for a joint problem. He may consider doing an x-ray to see if there is a bone cyst or bone tumor there. Read more

Wrist has been swollen for 3 days. Pain on day 1 starting @ pinky & going down wrist. @ times it feels like a knife running down my wrist bone.

Wrist swelling: Wrist swelling in absence of acute injury is consistent with arthritis. The little finger involvement is unusual but the nerve could be impinged or one of its joints could also be inflamed. Apply cold applications and, if you can take them, anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve should reduce swelling and inflammation. If symptoms persist see your MD who will order appropriate tests. Read more

Name of bones in wrist bone under middle figer at end of thum in wrist sticking out could it be broke and what is its name can you help me please thank you

"Could: "could it be broke". Did you fall or otherwise have a high-energy injury? If not then, no it cannot be broken. If it feels broken, that is probably a misinterpretation of the pain. Pain always triggers and sets off our "safety system", making us feels protective and causing us to prepare for the worst ("it feels broken"). It's interesting that you want a name. Humans crave control and I assume you feel that if you could name the painful bone that you could feel a soothing sense of control. I suggest that a visit to a hand surgeon is in order. He or she will likely tell you several things you are not expecting to hear. Even though most or all of them will be good news, just the fact that they are unexpected or counter-intuitive can make them a little unwelcome, so prepare yourself. Be ready for the "safety system" to have called "fire" when there is just smoke. Be prepared for something you find convincing ("it's broke") to be incorrect. Read more
