Nail regrowth: As long as the nailbed has not been damaged or removed, nails should regrow with time (lots of time). Sometimes the new growth is characterized by discoloration or distortion, and this is usually permanent. Occlusion of the exposed nailbed with artificial nails and chemicals may further damage the nailbed and inhibit any new growth that might occur. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I : I would recommend you see a dermatologist who can perform a nail culture, determine what type of fungus you might have, and then discuss treatment options if the culture comes back positive for fungus. My pinky toe, bone under pinky toe and side of foot by pinky toe has been numb for 2 months. What could be causing this?
May or may not heal.: The area you are having numbness in seems to be totally delineated by the 1st sacral dermatome. The dysfunctional nerves could be in the back's sacral area, the peroneal nerve in the knee area, the lateral plantar and/or the sural nerves in the foot. Something has disrupted the nerve impulse along this route and the result is numbness. To remove all doubt, a neurologist needs to be consulted. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

Dropped a shelf on my toe about 8 months ago it fell off about 6 months ago. The nail is almost fully grown but I'm worried about an ingrown nail.
Needs assistance : Out of bath or shower when skin and nail are soft try lifting up on the leading edge of nail. Try sticking small piece of cotton under the corners to assist in lifting them away from the skin. Leave cotton in place as nail grows. Be aware- trauma to nail can cause deformity that causes nail to grow irregularly. This may need to be addressed by your foot doctor. ...Read more
Foot Injury: At around 4:30pm today I hit my foot, smallest toe is slightly cut into, vertically. And ring toe is bruised under the nail. Pulsing?
No cause for concern: The small superficial cut on your small toe shouldn't be much of an issue as long as you can move your toe and feel the sensation at the tip of the toe. If the edges of the cut are gaping use tape to bring edges together. The blood collected under the nail should resolve on its own in a few days otherwise you can go to the Dr and get it drained to relieve the pressure ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Son fell off bed 3 days ago finger is swollen at tip and very bruised under nail. Should I have it drained. He is 4?
Get it checked: Your son probably has subingual hematoma from the injury. If the area involves less than ~25% of the nail bed, and is painless, it should resolve in a couple of weeks without any treatment. If the bleeding seem to involve a larger area or the area is painful, it needs to be evacuated by a procedure known as trephination. In the meantime, soak the area in warn water and use ibuprofen for pain. ...Read more
Black toe nail: The only serious problem you could have, that gives a black toe nail, would be a malignant melanoma on the nail bed beneath the nail. A bruised nail turns red, and then dark, and then resolves after a period of time, as the nail grows out. It may take more than 3 months for a bruised big toe nail to grow out, so it may pay to be patient and wait, or visit a dermatologist right away for help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
