Dr. Eric R. Tepper answered:

The top of my foot is swollen and bruised with a lump could it be broken?

Possible

Bruise
Clearly, an x-ray would help detemine whether you have a fracture. However, a hairline (stress) fracture may not be evident on x-ray until 10- 14 days post injured. The lump may be swelling or a hematoma as a result of the injury.

It sounds like you jammed it and have internal swelling.

There is no way to tell for sure without x-rays. Better get to a doctor and have it checked out.

Swollen lump on top of foot with pain, broken?

Not necessarily

Tendonitis
But certainly possible. Tendonitits, midfoot exostosis, gout are all certainly part of differential diagnosis.

Dr. Janet Kail answered:

Top of foot swollen? Could this be a stress fracture?

Yes, maybe

Stress
There are several things that can cause swelling on top of foot and stress fracture is one. If you suspect this, see your podiatrist or orthopedist. You will need to get an x-ray and sometimes other testing is necessary as stress fractures can be difficult to visualize on plain x-ray in the beginning of injury.

Dr. Janet Kail answered:

Hurt top of foot and now its swollen along with my knee why?

Swelling-damage

Paronychia
Usually swelling means some type of damage, either injury or systemic issue. Since you state you hurt foot, I would recommend trying rest with elevation, cold pack, compression with ace wrap, elevation. If this does not take care of swelling and pain, see your PCP, podiatrist or orthopedist.

Dr. Jeffrey Bowman answered:

Top of foot has big bump and foot is bruised, how to treat this quickly?

Does it hurt?

Bruise
You didn't mention if it was painful. If just a bruise and not painful then may need no treatment. If painful then it could be a fracture or bone spur, ganglion cyst? Need better description of it but I would suggest you get it checked.

You would need

To be evaluated in person by a foot doc. The question is to general and a clinical exam including palpation of the foot range of motion testing and possibly xrays to arrive at a correct diagnosis is warranted.

Stool dropped on top of foot, instant bruise. Can walk fine but very painful to touch. When should i get checked out?

Hard to say?

Bruise
If one is able to walk after this type of injury, and there is bruising and swelling, usually one can determine after elevating the extremity, placing ice on it, and perhaps taking some ibuprofen, that they would be able to tell if they need to be seen or not. If there is any chance of deformity of the foot, one would definitely need to be seen in a few hours to a day or so.
