Rice now.: Sounds like you would benefit from the RICE protocol. Rest, Ice , Compression and Elevation. Painful on the bottom and bruised on the top could mean a fracture is possible. See how it feels tomorrow. If the foot still is painful when bearing weight, then you will need an x-ray to verify possible bone trauma. Stop the Flow.: Initially, apply ice, or an ice pack to the area. Mild compression and elevation(higher than your heart) will help stem the tide. Later, after the swell goes down, some moist heat, will help dissipate the bruising. Make sure that the cause of the puncture is not an immediate cause of concern for an infection, so keep an eye out. ...Read more

Rice It.: Begin with the RICE protocol. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Do not put weight on it until tomorrow. The swelling should be reduced as well as the pain.
