Over time, damaged tissues heal and blood collections are reabsorbed. Protect the area to promote fastest healing. Motrin/advil will help. ...Read more

My 9 yr old bent her finger backwards 4 days ago and it's still very swollen and bruised from knuckle down on both sides of her finger?
Fracture?: For this type of injury to the finger of your daughter, I would recommend an x-ray to evaluate any fracture in the bones of her finger. An avulsion fracture is common injury for nine-year-old girls. An appointment with pediatrician after x-rays completed would be beneficial. Placement of a rigid finger splint and comfort measures would help relieve her symptoms. If fracture, appt. w/orthopedic. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I bruised the knuckle on my ring finger 5.5 weeks ago. I had an X-ray and not broken. It is still swollen as I can't get my engagement ring on. help!
RICE: You can use ice and compression (mini Ace wrap) to reduce the swelling in the knuckle, but if it's been 5.5 weeks, you might have some chronic inflammation going on. If RICE therapy doesn't help, see a hand doc to make sure the ligaments are OK. Don't put your ring back on until the swelling has resolved because you might aggravate it. I'm sure your fiancee will understand! ...Read more

Should i get a second opinion on my hand? Should i get a second opinion on my hand when i already had an ex-ray on tuesday of last week? They told me i had just a bruise on my knuckle and it has gotten worse when i try to make a fist it hurts really bad?
A : A bruise can hurt. A soft tissue injury with swelling in a knucle or the back of the hand can cause stiffness. However a nondisplaced fracture or a small avuslion type fracture can go unseen, even negative on the original xray but the chage of a few days or a slightly different view might reveal an injury. More important than whether it is a minimal fracture or a severe bruise or a ligmanet injury is care for your injury. Id see someone who can offer that care regardless of whether the injury is a, b or c. A hand surgeon is a good resource. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I think I sprained my hand? It's semi bruised and the index knuckle is tender. Should I place ice and wait in time, or is nontreatment a worse choice?
Get treatment: Ice is a great treatment for anytime that you have swelling. For your hand, I would place the entire hand in a bucket of ice water for 15-20min. Remove and repeat in 20-30min. This should decrease swelling and pain. In regards to not getting treatment, only a hands on exam/ XR can rule out a broken bone, which could get worse without appropriate treatment. ...Read more
What do external bruises look like from knuckle punch to eyeball resulting in orbital floor fracture w/ muscle entrapment. If a man were to hit a woman in the eye and the contact is more a knuckle contact to eyeball rather than a closed fist, would there
If : If there is an orbital fracture would anticipate that there would be edema (swelling) and pain. With that said, I am in no position to dispute the diagnosis made by an examining physician. From the standpoint of a psychiatrist, it is very concerning if a man strikes a woman in the eye with his knuckle as that might suggest uncontrolled rage. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
