Bruise: Many causes of bruises aren't memorable - you could have bumped your arm, or a small vein could have burst to cause the bruise. They take weeks to resolve. As long as not tender/increasing/red, or with streaks, you should be OK! ...Read more

I have a bruise on my forearm. I assume from my dog because it's in the shape of a paw print. But I don't recall when it happened. It is over 1 month?

You can wait longer: 1 month isn't a concerning time. It would be more concerning if the bruise is getting larger and larger. If not then I would continue to wait it out. ...Read more

Soft tissue swelling: A slight muscle strain can cause a deep bruise as can bumping into something. For discomfort, you can ice, and use ibuprofen. ...Read more

I broke a rib 4 weeks ago and have had a sensitive bruise along my right forearm vein ever since. Could I have blood poisoning?

I broke a rib 4 weeks ago and have had a sensitive bruise along my right forearm vein ever since. Could I have blood poisoning?

Unlikely: There is no reason to think you would have a bacterial infection in your blood (septicemia, "blood poisoning") from a rib fracture you had a month ago. A bruise on your forearm is not a sign of septicemia. If you have a painful bruise dating from when you broke your rib, see your doctor to see if you injured the arm too. ...Read more

Medium sized bruise from IV 2 weeks ago on forearm. Bruise is healing (slowly but surely) but the area around it is desensitized (not completely numb) is this desensitization normal?

Medium sized bruise from IV 2 weeks ago on forearm. Bruise is healing (slowly but surely) but the area around it is desensitized (not completely numb) is this desensitization normal?

Swelling from th IV and bruising may have stretched the nerves to the skin in that area and as the swelling resolves the nerves will gradually recover and sensation restored but may take several or more weeks after swelling resolved. Slight chance that the IV actually injured the nerve itself in which case it may take much longer for sensation to return. ...Read more
