A : A bruise is a result of bleeding under the skin. It sounds as though you had a minor injury, possibly one that you we're even away of, that caused bleeding. Sometimes it doesn't take much to injure a small vessel. That would explain the tenderness and then the bruise. Most likely the bruise will resolve and you'll have no further problems. However, if your tenderness returns or the bruising continues, i would be sure to discuss it with your physician. ...Read more

Swelling : Swelling and loss of motion can be the result of trauma. That can mean a severe bruise or fracture. Swelling can also radially occur with infection, a joint problem such as gout or arthritis, which will also rapidly add to difficulty moving if swelling occurs rapidly. Loss of motion is a cause for concern and you should be seen by a health care provider and be examined and get x-rays for a start. The elbow is very sensitive to loss of motion when swollen and even a small hairline fracture in the radial head, a bone on the elbow, if not treated properly will result in difficulty extending the elbow fully. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Many causes: It still may be related to relatively innocuous trauma to your elbow(like just leaning on it) though it is a bit atypical. But if there is a problem with your platelets, clotting proteins or blood vessel strength, you can readily have easy bruising. If this doesn't resolve or you develop more bruises consider reviewing this issue with your doctor. Best of luck. ...Read more
Slipped on ice, landed on right elbow. Xrays showed no big break. Its bruised, swellings down. Elbows very sensitive. Hairline or just bruised bone?
Sounds like a bru --: Ised elbow, as the xrays were negative. Protect the elbow, for a 10-14 days and if its only a bruised, it'll get better. If not improving or getting worse, get a another xray as in some cases initial xray may not show a fx, which was present. So protecting it for 2 weeks and re-xraying it would be the way to go. Good luck. ...Read more

Moving her arm?: Is she moving her arm? If not she needs to be reevaluated. I can't say for sure without seeing the bumps but they may be abrasions from the fall, just make sure you clean them thoroughly. If she is moving her arm normally I would ice the lump and give her some OTC ibuprophen or tylenol (acetaminophen) for the pain and wait and see if anything changes. ...Read more
