The bladder is a muscular organ in the pelvis that accepts urine from the kidneys, stores the urine at low pressure, & expels the urine during voluntary voiding. Though seemingly a simple reservoir, the bladder is a complex organ intricately connected with the brain and spinal cord with sensory, motor, and autonomic circuits. Slipped on ice, landed on right elbow. Xrays showed no big break. Its bruised, swellings down. Elbows very sensitive. Hairline or just bruised bone?

Slipped on ice, landed on right elbow. Xrays showed no big break. Its bruised, swellings down. Elbows very sensitive. Hairline or just bruised bone?

Sounds like a bru --: Ised elbow, as the xrays were negative. Protect the elbow, for a 10-14 days and if its only a bruised, it'll get better. If not improving or getting worse, get a another xray as in some cases initial xray may not show a fx, which was present. So protecting it for 2 weeks and re-xraying it would be the way to go. Good luck. ...Read more

Badly bruised leg on bedframe, almost 2 weeks ago still purplish on back of leg and stingy pain on laceration site. Is this infected or usual healing?

Not normal: The potential of skin infection is very real especially if tetanus immunity is not up to date. Extremities do take longer to heal but don't risk missing a potential infection. Seek out medical care for an exam since there was a break in the skin and you still have pain. ...Read more

Pain on left side of rib cage (no physical injury, but swelling), even on deep breathing. Localized on touching. Had a bike accident 2 days back.

Pain on left side of rib cage (no physical injury, but swelling), even on deep breathing. Localized on touching. Had a bike accident 2 days back.

Possible fracture.: It is possible to fracture a rib or just bruise it up pretty well. Sometimes the pain can be severe. As long as you are not having any shortness of breath (excluding that due to sharp pain with inspiration) you will heal. There is no real benefit to having rib xrays as the treatment will be the same -avoid injuring it while it heals. ...Read more

I fell 1 mo ago on elbow-no fx-still have very painful dollar sz nodule on it and can't put pressure on it. Resolving hematoma?

Possible.: Would have expected a hematoma to have resolved by now, but if very large may be persistent. More likely this is a traumatic bursitis where the virtual fluid filled sack which pads the elbow fills with fluid. This gives a spongy feel to a large and tender mass over the elbow. ...Read more

See orthopedist: Fracture would be unlikely if there wasn't a definite injury, but the bruise suggests that something may have happened which you weren't aware of. Blood clot is unlikely in the foot. I would recommend evaluation by an orthopedist, to include x-rays. ...Read more

Is the front shin more prone to scarring? Banged shin, left bony knot on tibia. Doc took xrays and says it's subcutaneous scar. This common on shin?

Yes: The tibia( shin) bone has very little muscle coverage in the front and lower 2/3 of the bone. Contusions and secondary hematomas are quite common. Sometimes these collections of blood and secondary seroma/ scar 'knots' form and can persist for some time.Nothing to worry about. Best of Luck! ...Read more

Get that checked out: This sounds like a thrombosed (clotted) vein in your hand. The Aspirin may have helped to dissolve the clot. This could happen for several reasons. It also could be something else. I would get this checked out just be cautious. ...Read more

Get a blood test: Sudden bruising without injury should be investigated with a complete blood cell count. This will include a platelet count as well as red blood cells and white blood cells. Start with your primary doctor, for the blood test. He/she may send you to a hematologist if the test indicates and abnormality. Or maybe you just are an aggressive sleeper.
