Hemangioma?: You don't say how old your daughter is. If she is an infant, she may be developing one of the many types of hemangiomas, which are collections of blood vessels under the skin. Posture?: The most common reason that i see skin discoloration over the spinous processes (the superficial bumps that you can feel on the spine) is from chronic pressure on the skin. This occurs from sitting in chairs with poor posture, essentially bruising the skin between the hard chair and the bone underneath. Observation: 2 yr old with "bruises down spine". It is common to see minor bruises in this age group especially in areas that receive trauma related to play such as the extremities and even over the spine.
