Varies: There are a number of possibilities, among the more common and sometimes concerning can be a spider bite, particularly a brown recluse spider. I broke my ankle 8. Days ago now top of foot bruised n swelling n hurts to touch right by my toes could i have broken more n xrays missed it?

Broken ankle or foot: Depending on the severity of your ankle fracture and the mechanism of the injury (ie. how it happened) you could have swelling and bruising to the toes. Did you only have ankle x-rays? If so you might need foot x-rays also. Go back to the doctor you saw and get more information. If you went to the ER, then you might need the x-rays to take to your personal doctor. ...Read more

Stubbed toe, (beside big toe) few days ago, bruising, min. swelling but hurts when I move it, esp. right on top of foot, could I have fractured it?

Stubbed toe, (beside big toe) few days ago, bruising, min. swelling but hurts when I move it, esp. right on top of foot, could I have fractured it?

Maybe : Only way to tell is with an X-ray. If the toe is still straight, the only thing that is usually done is a splint to the adjacent toe. If the symptoms are bad enough, and/or the toe is deformed, best to have an X-ray. See an orthopedist next week to get this done. Otherwise, need to go to an ER. Hope this helps! ...Read more

I hit the top of foot by outside ankle 2 days ago. Very little swelling and bruising. Now aches from big toe up to back lower leg. Could I be broken?

Soft tissue trauma.: An x-ray can be used to identify most fractures for sure. So, removing all doubt would necessitate having an x-ray. My take is that you have managed to traumatize either a nerve or tendon passing through the area. Unfortunately an x-ray won't show these problems. An evaluation would help in isolating the source of your pain. Thank you for consulting Healthtap. ...Read more

Pain near toes for 4weeks,now small boney lump on top of foot.fuzzy feeling in toes.could this be a fracture? No swelling, little bruising.

Pain near toes for 4weeks,now small boney lump on top of foot.fuzzy feeling in toes.could this be a fracture? No swelling, little bruising.

Ganglion cyst?: Sounds like this could be a ganglion cyst (fluid filled bump). Does it move around? Could be interfering with a nerve causing the "fuzzy" feeling in the toes. Usually there is no bruising with a ganglion unless the cause was trauma. This should be checked out by your physician. You can never be too cautious about bumps or lumps. ...Read more

What are possible causes of sudden pain of top of foot with the apeearance of a bump and swelling? Thank u

Cyst of some type: Several things can cause it, there are deposits like lipomas, epidermal cysts, that are benign but can be painful. A common problem in that area can be a ganglion cyst. These are small benign growths that occur on tendons. They are all easily sorted out on physical exam. You should see a primary care doctor. ...Read more

Banged the inside top of foot a week ago, now healed. No swelling, but now the outside top of same foot is throbbing 1 week later. Can it be related?

Banged the inside top of foot a week ago, now healed. No swelling, but now the outside top of same foot is throbbing 1 week later. Can it be related?

Yes: You may have been guarding the portion of the foot that was painful last week causing an overuse injury to the other side of the foot. This can be treated with rest or preferably a removable walking boot. I would suggest you see a podiatrist. ...Read more

Need to find cause: Of the swelling. I would imagine if you had the condition for three years, you must of sought prior help. Why don't you share what was told to you so far? Without seeing your foot, you don't provide enough information to make an educated diagnosis...... ...Read more

Type your question here...pain on top of foot, knot, swelling. Mole at site appeared recently. What could it be?

Several diagnoses: A knot on top of the foot can be anything from a soft tissue mass to a simple ganglion cyst to an abscess. If there is pain involved you need to be evaluated by a foot specialist and xrays and possibly an MRI is needed. The 'mole' may be incidental but in very rare cases, a malignant skin lesion may be the cause. Go see the doctor! ...Read more

Yeah, you'll want to: see someone about that.
without an exam, I can only give general information. We go from what is there at the site of the problem. There are muscles, joints, and tendons. The joints can swell up. But bones can have chronic stress fractures. In both cases, long term treatment of immobilzation and x rays to see what is going on is helpful. ...Read more

Can gabapentin for i c cause pain/swelling on area of 3rd-5th toes where toes meet with top of foot, one foot only?

Not usually! : Gabapentine is an effective treatment for neuropathy and other nerve injury. Swelling in the feet is a possible side effect but pain and swelling in a specific area would more likely be something else. It could be an injury, arthritis, hammertoes or stress fracture. You need an evaluation by a medical professional.

Right foot swelling since 3/14 now i notice a quarter size patch with light purple viens on top of foot by ankle. What could it be?

Possible ganglion: There are some various things that can present that way. The area that you describe is a common place for ganglions to form. Another consideration, is the Extensor Digitorum Brevis muscle belly. This can become enlarged due to various stresses. It is located on the lateral or little toe side of the foot near the ankle.
If you are having pain from this you may want to have this checked out. ...Read more
