Many possible things: In the first 1-3 mos, spotting/irregular bleeding is quite common, and can occur even with perfect pill use. It doesn't mean there's a a problem. But if you've been on the pill for awhile, there are many possible causes of bleeding-- from infections, even stds, to polyps of the uterus or cervix, to fibroids, to missed pills, or other causes. Possible: Implantation bleeding is not really as common as the internet would have you believe. When it does happen it's usually 6-12 days after ovulation. A pregnancy test 14 days after unprotected intercourse is much more helpful. Implantation bleeding occurs exclusively in pregnant women. If you actually are male, you need to see a doctor right away if you are having blood and any kind of discharge from your penis. If you are female, this could be signs of a vaginal infection. Yes: Menstrual flow often changes during the course of the period. Often times is is light in the beginning, then becomes heavier for a few days and then finishes with brown blood or spotting.
