Brown Discharge After Pap Smear
Light bleeding: The trauma of pap smear may have caused some bleeding. If the discharge does not disappear in a couple of day, please consult your doctor.
Discharge can be a noun or a verb; it has multiple meanings in physics, chemistry, military, and legal usage. The most common medical meaning is a substance that is being excreted. Examples: pus is the discharge from a pimple; a vaginal discharge can mean infection; an ear discharge can mean an infection of the outer ear tract; a nasal discharge ...Read more
I had a pap smear today and now I have very small dots of brown discharge. Could it have damaged something?
Probably not: It is not uncommon to have brief minor bleeding after a pap smear. It should resolve reasonably quickly.
I had a pap smear this past Tuesday. Didn't have brown discharge until Thursday, and here it is Friday, same thing. Should I be worried?
Bleeding from Pap: Smear can be delayed for up to 1 week after the procedure. This is due to the scabbing that occurs right after the cervix experienced trauma from scraping, then once the cervical mucus returns and normal hormonal cycle increases its size again, the scabbing may loosen and cause some minor clots. Just monitor it and make sure the brownish color discharge goes away in a week.
I had a pap smear this past Friday. I've started to have a small amount of brown discharge starting Sunday and leading into Monday. Is this normal?
Yes this could be: A normal result of a procedure that harvested part of your cervix, as a Pap smear is designed to do. If this continues or worsens, then you should call the healthcare professional that performed the procedure to inquire about a followup consult for this problem. It should go away by itself in 1-2 days. Thanks for trusting in HealthTap.
Many possibilities: There are multiple possibilities associated with a brown discharge most of which cannot be diagnosed by a Pap smear. The most common reasons in your age group are associated with ovulatory abnormalities and infections. The specific cause can usually be identified with a thorough history and physical examination including testing for specific infections. You need to make an appointment with your gynecologist.
I have brown discharge with no other symptoms, I went to my doctor and got a pap smear. Everything looks fine insidebut it's going on for two weeks
How old are you?: It depends how old you are. If you are over 40 then it would be good to have an EMB done to rule out cancer which is low in chance but important to rule out. If you are younger then it can be normal as long as you don't have a polyp in the cervix which your doctor would have looked for.
Discharge after pap: Its can be normal to have either brownish or blood discharge after a "good" pap (depends on which end of the pap your on)When delicate tissues are scraped there can be bleeding. Please call your doctor for your results. Many offices are so busy they can let results fall through the crack. I would just want you to make sure your pap was normal.
I have been having dark brownish, black vaginal discharge for over a month. I recently had a normal Pap smear. Could something still be wrong?
Yes: A normal PAP smear does not address issues inside the uterus. Did you have a normal period? Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD. What might be the other problem if you are experiencing mild bleeding and dark brown odorless discharges, urinalysis is negative, pap smear negative?
Anovulatory: You may be having anovulatory, meaning "no egg", cycles. This causes some dark spotting instead of a regular period. This can start happening as you get closer to menopause. If it continues, your doctor might want to get an ultrasound of your uterus or possibly a biopsy. Don't worry, just keep track of when it happens and follow-up with your doctor. (and always carry pads or tampons!).

Cervix small part red dr said its nothing to worry cause my pap smear was good but I am having brownish discharge after period, the past 2 periods?
Spotting: Irregular spotting is one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections & hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do a home pregnancy test. There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Pink discharge first then brown stringy discharge and now light blood spotting (not an infection or STD pap smear\blood work was good) am I pregnant?
A pregnancy test: Would help. There are other causes for various types of vaginal discharges.
Yes: When doing a pap you scape the cervix which might cause bleeding after the pap. I alway tell people they might have a little spotting a fter the pap, especially when nothing looks abnormal.
What other tests?: Besides a Pap Smear did you have any other tests? The Pap is a screening test for cervical cancer and it is not intended to test other issues that you might be having. If symptoms started after you had your last GYN exam and no other labs besides the Pap go back to your GYN provider for evaluation. I would also suggest to have a pregnancy test if sexually active,
