Can take weeks: I am sorry to hear about the bronchitis. This excess phlegm is just the after effects of the inflammatory process and can take a couple (sometime 3-4 weeks) weeks to resolve. You could try guaifenesin 300 mg by mouth and you can take this every 4 hours if needed. This will help break up the mucus/phlegm. Just make sure you are not pregnant while taking this. Still have asthma: If you have asthma and had an attack 2 weeks earlier, you still have the4 disease. Prolonged bronchitis, in many cases, is actually asthma. So, if you still have problems, you need to be on an inhaled steroid and broncho-dilator. 3-7 days: Bacterial bronchitis usual begins resolving in 3-7 days after antibiotic initiation. If is is viral bronchitis then antibiotics will have no effect on resolution, and it may take longer. Time for evaluation: If you haven't had a chest x ray, it would be a good start. You can have what is called increased vocal fold sensitivity after a cold, but that should last about this long. Other considerations are allergy, sinusitis, and reflux. Allergy and asthma should have at least temporarily improved on steroids.
